This is about the most perfect cafe experience you could ask for. Of course, it helped that we were there within an hour of closing on a quiet Sunday afternoon straight after new year - there was no wait and no problem getting the perfect seat outside. I imagine on market Sundays things might be a little more hectic.
We had flat whites (you can choose a cup or a mug; we chose mugs and they were lovely stoneware), and then between us tried the banana bread (warm and buttery) and one of their signature filled doughnuts - the passionfruit one. Everything was fresh and great and totally delicious. And it took at least 5 min to choose from everything in the pastry case - there were Welsh cakes and rocky road and all sorts. I think they want you to come back to assuage your initial indecision and it's a fine marketing technique because we will DEFINITELY be back. Maybe for brunch next time; that menu looks amazing!
There's quite a lot of seating indoors, more along a long verandah outside, and free parking on two sides of the building. The verandah overlooks the sport oval on the other side of the quiet street. The gentleman who served us was lovely and kind. Just a 5-star experience;...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt is no exaggeration to say that this cafe has the best donuts Iāve ever tasted. Even more impressive is the friendly caring staff. I ordered gluten donuts for my Mum for Motherās Day, explaining to the owner that my mum hasnāt had a donut (her favourite dessert) in 5 years since being diagnosed as a celiac. This was due to fear caused by the negligence of many cafes and restaurants we have encountered who have contaminated her food with gluten and caused her to become violently ill. The staff at Kynefin however, were well versed in the proper way to prepare and serve gluten free food! As a result my mum was able to enjoy her donuts without the worry of contamination ! Whatās more is that she said these donuts were even better than any donut she had before her diagnosis! Thank you for making my Mumās donut...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreReally lovely place, good atmosphere. Service was a little slow, but I think largely due to Mother's day crowds. Space is a little cramped and our table was wobbly, but still a great experience.
The coffee was really good, and the doughnuts are amazing. Took some caramel slice home, and enjoyed that the next day. The chocolate top was a little too rich for me, so didn't eat all of it, but the caramel and biscuit base absolutely make the best caramel slice I've had in Canberra. Can't wait to try more of their baked goods.
Had a burger and chips for lunch. Excited to find a place that hand cuts their chips. Perfectly cooked. The burger on a house made bun was yummy. All very reasonably priced.
Will be going back. The pies look like they need...
