I visited on a Saturday morning for breakfast. The coffee and breakfast were nice. I had the Meating B&E roll and a cappuccino. For $7 I also tried the salted caramel and pretzel shake, which was disappointing in every way. Too small, presentation was lacking and the pretzels were quite roughly blended up in the shake, making for a bit of a gravelly drink. The staff don't seem to pay enough attention to the tables. Almost all the empty tables were filthy when I went in this morning, and it took a long time to get somebody's attention to clean one off. You have to order at the bar and get your own water for the table. The atmosphere was loud, and not in an "everybody's chatting" kind of way. It was noisy from the kids' sport crowd. Unfortunately when I visited there was a group of kids literally screaming (which I acknowledge is not the establishment's fault). Overall I was disappointed. The menu was promising but the presentation and atmosphere let it down. There are plenty of better dining options in Canberra with full table service.

Hidden Gem for US-Style Burgers and Philly Cheesesteak in Canberra Ok okay, If you're on the hunt for authentic US-style smash burgers and a mouthwatering Philly cheesesteak in Canberra, look no further than The Meating Room. This hidden gem is my go to when I want to satisfy this craving (note wear stretch pants). The burgers at The Meating Room are juicy, flavorful, and incredibly filling, each bite is a testament to their dedication to quality of the meat that they use. For me the real star of the show for me is their Philly cheesesteak. With so few places in Canberra offering this iconic sandwich, The Meating Room gets me. The meat is tender and well balances with fresh ingredients. Defs pop in in you value good quality burgers (not to mention they do smokehouse days too).

A lovely modern pub located below street level that serves all sorts of drinks from soft, to wine, beer and liquor. Food on offer ranges from chips, to burgers (including pulled pork, the usual schnitzel through to desserts (creme brulee, brownies, etc). There are indoor and outdoor seating. At times it can be noisy and has sports on the screen. Staff are friendly and engaging. Parking is across the road at the Woolworths.

Would have been 4 stars if not for a distasteful encounter with the wait staff.

First the good things: food is stock standard pub food. small selection but everything we ordered was well executed (calamari, burger, meat platter) nice atmosphpere. Loud but not overly for a pub. neat and well maintained from what I could tell

Main thing that really irked me happened towards the end of the meal. After just one hour, as the pub started to fill up, the waitress pretty aggressively attempted to clean up our table - took away my chips even though half of it was still left. I didn't say anything because I was pretty full but then not 5 minutes later, she comes back and asks somewhat curtly whether we're done - this is with half of the ribs, a sausage, part of the steak etc. still left. To be fair we were nibbling since we were full but it's not like we had been there for hours. Taking away 1/2 hour for ordering+getting the actual food, we only had 30 minutes to finish our food. No time for second round of drinks? No desserts?

Can't help but feel she was selecting us out because we were just a quiet family who weren't there to get lots of drinks. For example, the table next to us had gotten there before us and were just sipping their drinks by that point but didn't get bothered...

I enjoyed the Meating Room Experience. The friendly and playful atmosphere, coupled with the excellent and kind staff members. Particularly Robii and Hamish Walker. Hamish was a real star...

I do have one critique however, they were not able to cater to my booking of 125 people. I was hoping to have the after party of my Father's funeral there. However, I was able to get a last minute spot at Grill'd.

The food was amicable at best, I enjoyed the special homemade sauce, but I thought that maybe the burgers could be improved marketing wise, by changing their name on the menu to "handhelds". I feel this would not only benefit sales, but boost the enjoyment of the meal as many of The Meating Room's clientele enjoy "handhelds" thus bolstering the enjoyment of the meal.

I really did enjoy going here on Tuesday for Trivia. But due to the complications with my Father's funeral. I believe compensation...
