Avon Valley Inn — Restaurant in Gloucester

We came for a family function that was pre booked for 5pm (months notice). They were aware of rough numbers and that children were coming. Friday night. Bistro remained unopen until usual time 6pm. I've worked in a country pub before, so knew to order my food straight away at 5.58pm (about the 2nd to 4th person to order). I didn't receive my garlic bread until 6.30 (no apology). My two kids meals came out with my pizza at 6.45pm (no apology). Our final group of people didn't get there meal until 8.30pm (ordered at 6.45pm). We had to hold off the birthday cake, because family were leaving and do it on Saturday night instead. The kids meals and most others came out with some yuck smokey bbq sauce instead of tomato sauce.

My feedback- you know you have a large group of people, change the normal bistro hours by taking orders earlier, you don't have to start cooking. Or put on extra staff and start cooking 30mins earlier. Waiting 30mins for a main meal is common....longer should come with an apology and even a free drink if 1hr. Waiting 30mins for garlic bread is not okay, you should have a cook stationed on entrees only (and maybe salads).

The apathy from the staff was appauling, including the head lady. You'll take our money happily. A final note, the pizza was really yummy (lamb). The organisation, service and general running is not so delicious. This is the second family function we've had here in 3 yrs. We won't...

Service & Atmosphere were warm and welcoming. We have not eaten here for some time due to a couple of bad experiences but thought we would try again with new management. This time we started with Garlic Bread which was GREAT!!! Then followed by the Thursday Night Steak Special, it was really good and tasty, meat tender, chips crunchy and vegetables crisp. The major problem was the whole meal was COLD. We were early and Restaurant was not busy, maybe 6 seated and 4 staff cooking. We raised our concern with Bar Staff (where meal was ordered) and the reply that “I will tell them” was somewhat disappointing. Service was great, bar staff were great but the bistro and wait times really let this place down. 10-15 minute wait for drinks as the bar was understaffed with only one lady trying to handle everyone’s orders. Ordered our food and then sat back and watched as the two families that ordered after us collected and finished their food. After over an hour wait we asked if we could at least get the kids meals out, kids meals came 10 later and then another 20 before ours came out. So an hour and a half wait for pretty average food.
