Chef House Thai — Restaurant in Gold Coast City

Went there because of the great reviews on google. Well we were the second people in for service the restaurant is nicely appointed and the staff are friendly. I wanted to get Thai food as I haven't been able to go back to Thailand since Covid19 well the Fish Cakes came out first and they seemed familiar I have bought these at Coles Im sure of it. Coles sell Thai fish cakes in limited numbers and these are the same size and taste so not made from scratch. I think the Chef must have been running late because the first people didn't get food until 30min after we got there and they looked pretty settled in by the time we arrived. 50 minutes after our arrival we got our 3 main dishes. The taste was good but its contemporary Thai not traditional I must admit I expected better from the rave reviews on here. The attention to service was non existent and that let's the whole team down. They seem to concentrate on takeaways so operating out of the small kitchen it poses a problem to serve everyone between table and takeaway service. If we ordered takeaway I could have been back home and eaten showered and asleep by the time we had sat there waiting for our dinner. We went at this restaurant last night as I’m craving for. Thai food. We ordered Thai fish cakes and pork with basil and chilli . The fish cakes taste good although it’s not the traditional one you get from restaurants. When the pork basil arrives, it’s not what we expected. It’s pork mince with some basil and veggies. When the waitress asked if everything was okay, I told her that we were disappointed. I told her that I’ve never had pork mince in basil pork. Normally it’s pork meat and not mince. I told her that the menu didn’t say anything about pork mince therefore it’s misleading. I also told the waitress that you can go across the road where there’s a Thai restaurant (Thai Beer garden and restaurant) and they serve proper pork in pork basil and not mince. The restaurant doesn’t flashy but the food is better than Chef HouseThai restaurant. We’ve been to many Thai restaurants around the Gold Coast and this is worst. We went there tonight for dinner and it was awesome. The food was authentic and delicious. So good that you can forgive the waitresses forgetting this and that. Anyone looking for an authentic Thai experience should give this restaurant a try. The beef cheeks was the high light, we did not get to try the som tum but we will definitely come back another night. I had my staff dinner at Phat Boy Brisbane and this was far better. If you looking for an authentic Thai experience, please give this restaurant a try. You will not regret it.
