Such a cool little hidden gem in Coomera! Genki Sushi is not just a sushi cafe but also a creative space offering workshops like drawing, painting, and candle-making. I love the vibe here—relaxed, welcoming, and a bit artsy. I’d definitely love to come back and join one of their workshops in the future.
The food here is pretty impressive and feels very authentic. I had the Aburi Salmon Sushi Bento, and it was absolutely delicious. The salmon was perfectly seared with a lovely smoky flavour, paired beautifully with the sweetness of the teriyaki sauce. The bento came with a good variety—fresh sushi, a tasty side seaweed salad, and crispy karaage that was juicy on the inside.
I also tried their onigiri, ship sushi and dumpling, it was spot on— delicious, fresh, clean flavours. You can really taste the care they put into the quality of their seafood.
Their coffee is surprisingly great—the barista definitely knows their craft. I also had a iced matcha latte, which was smooth, earthy, and not overly sweet.
I noticed they also have sando (Japanese sandwiches) on the menu, which looked really tempting. I’d love to try one of those next time, along with their salmon teriyaki rice bowl or karaage rice bowl, which looked amazing when I saw it come out to another table.
All in all, Genki Sushi is a wonderful spot whether you’re here for good Japanese food, great coffee, or a bit of creative downtime with their workshops. Highly recommend...
Read moreWow, how lucky are we to have two great and authentic Japanese restaurants on (Leaf) and near (Genki) Tamborine Mt?
Both feel like modern Japanese Cafe restaurants in Tokyo or anywhere in Japan, both with excellent, informative (and surprising) Sake lists.
Leaf does better fried food (the accompanying sauce at Genki a touch too sweet), but Genki better Sushi (as good as you can get).
Ambience at Leaf better (moodier and you can see the chefs-kitchen), Genki a bit too bright/souless with irrelevant hairdresser music.
Service at both was friendly, informed and welcoming - though the open kitchen at Leaf is definitely preferred.
Leaf has Sake options by the glass, which makes sense - argon gas can keep open bottle freshness for weeks if required.
Value for money is better at Genki but both offer outstanding quality. Takeaway mid-week, Genki definitely the better option for Sushi - the bento boxes at both look promising.
Ambience at Leaf more adult, Genki family friendly. Genki should dim the lights a bit at night, and/or get some Japanese-inspired table lights, and have some Japanese relevant music - or no music. Even if Friday-Saturday, more couple, dining experience friendly.
Both will...
Read moreStopped in here today for some lunch as I read the reviews prior to going and they were all saying it was great and raving about how good it was well we parked out the front on the street and that’s a main road and it was very busy lots of traffic and was very dangerous. Had to ask the girls to hop out on the passenger side That is very hazardous and dangerous. As for the food. It was average. What you see in the photos for $68.90 could’ve just gone up the road to my local sushi hub and probably brought home a platter for that price. There were two people working when we were there. The male attempted to make a smile and be friendly. The female not so much is a struggle to get a word out of her or a smile. I’m sorry but I’m honest in all of my reviews and this one...
