I have to admit that Goukai has yummy ramen but I have to only give one star for them.
I am a solo female traveler and heard of the delicious authentic ramen from this restaurant; therefore I came here after I watched the magnificent sunset at the Burleigh Beach. I arrived at the restaurant around 7pm. The female Japanese waitress was super polite when I arrived, but turned into a cold attitude when I said I am alone. I understand that there were two people before me that will take a table that is about to be cleaned up so I offered to wait at their waiting area so she doesn’t need to give me a call when there is a space for me. She was quite upset, likely that she didn’t want to give me a table or a spot at the bar area which can fit in a single person if needed. As soon as another table freed up, she put a reserve sign on it. This made me heartbroken as a single female traveler as this is a sign that I am not welcomed and she is pushing me out of this restaurant.
I was really hungry, I therefore talked to two girls sitting on a four person table and asked if I could please join them. They were like normal welcoming GC people welcomed my joining and I finally got my dinner. We had a pleasant conversation.
When that waitress brought my food to the table, she didn’t even say anything.
I am utterly disappointed at the service in this restaurant and I feel being treated unfairly.
If you are also a sole traveler, think twice if you are planing to visit...
Read moreSeeing all the yummy pictures on their IG feed, we had high hopes for some great ramen 🍜🍜 . Boy, the team here for not disappoint! We ordered: • Red Hot Spicy Tonkotstu Ramen with extra egg & garlic oil • Black Garlic Tonkotstu Ramen with extra egg • Pork Gyoza • Hakushika Japanese Sake served hot 🍶🍶 . As soon as the ramen came, I tried out my Black Garlic Tonkotstu broth!. It was super creamy and rich and a nice thick (not watery) consistency that brought with it a strong pork bone flavor and brought back memories of great ramen from overseas!! The noodles were QQ (springy) and the char siu had a slight charring on it that gave it a great open grilled taste 🤤🤤 . Wifey loved her Red Hot Spicy version too. It had the same great noodles and char siu but her choice of broth had a nice kick to it - that's due to the chili flavours 👌🏼 . The Gyoza was cooked in typical steamed/fried fashion with the bottom being crispy and the top + insides being nice and soft. This was a great side dish to the main event that was the epic ramen 👍🏼👍🏼 . Totally satisfied and will definitely need to find a way to come back and try out...
Read moreJust had dinner here with my wife, having recently moved from Sydney we hadn't found a good Ramen spot until we found this place. We had the Pork Gyoza and Edamame to start with, which were both excellent! But the real surprise was the Ramen, my wife had the Goukai Original and I had the Meat Lovers (same as Goukai but more pork), the broth was amazing!! Thick but not heavy, amazing flavour, we both agree that it's better than any place we had been to in Sydney. You must try this restaurant if you like Ramen!! I wish I had taken a photo earlier, but this is my finished bowl 😃
Update Dec 2022 - it's been almost 2 yrs now since my wife and I first went to Goukai Ramen, we have been going every 2-3 weeks since and every time thoroughly enjoyed our ramen, the staff (and chefs) are very friendly always saying hi as we enter, atmosphere happy and friendly, and we have tried almost everything on the menu, definitely recommend adding some chopped chashu and a boiled egg to any of the ramens and as always the broth is delicious. If you haven't been you must...
