Kahani Indian Restaurant Tugun — Restaurant in Gold Coast City

Don't go here! Waited 2 hours to be told our food had already left and then said, "I don't know what to tell you". Ordered on Doordash at 6:20pm for a 6:50pm pick-up. Arrived at 6:50pm and told them our order name and they said, "We have no orders from Doordash". After some back and forth they wrote down our order to start from scratch and when we asked how long it would take to cook they replied rudely with, "as long as it takes". Continued waiting near the door, every 15mins we'd ask for an update and were told, "It'll be ready when it's ready", "I don't know", "I don't want to ask the chef again", only to get to 8:30pm and she asks, "what's your name again?" goes and checks and then, "I don't know what to tell you, that order has already gone out". I did not move from my spot all night, she kept seeing me and I kept checking, so when we asked how that happened she said, "what do you want me to do about it?". She was very rude, not only to us but to everyone, multiple people waited 45mins+ for their food if they were lucky enough to get it, a few people left empty-handed, when one lady asked for a refund after waiting an hour for her meal, she was yelled at by the staff member and sworn at. The whole night only 1 couple were dining in, and about 6 other takeaway orders, so they weren't run off their feet. The people dining in waited 30mins for a drink order and they left half their meal uneaten because they of how bad it tasted. Terrible service. Luckily we got our money back from Doordash. DO NOT USE ORDER ONLINE OPTION. SCAM!!! I used the order online option because the restaurant wasnt quite open for the day and after putting card details in, it said error 502. So naturally i tried again and same thing. I rang restaurant to place order over phone and saw two amounts taken out of my account by Mealnow totalling $180. The restaurant said they no longer use mealnow and will get onto a refund. The girl at Kahani said she had spoken with Mealnow and we would have refund within 24hrs. 24hrs goes by and no refund so I rang the restaurant. Same girl and she said she would get onto it next day. Next day no refund or follow up from Kahani. Rang them and the man on the phone pretty much said they don't use Mealnow because they haven't paid in 2 months . I said that was not my concern because i used the order online via the Kahani website. I was given the owners phone number because the worker didn't want to deal with it. We have rang owner and so far no response. Mealnow reviews show they are a scam and we were hung up on when we called. My question is that Kahani are connected to Mealnow as the girl stated and they need to take accountability. We are disgusted with what has occurred, it's not like we are sprouting money. I made a terrible error yesterday in my clouded judgement … we have been locked down in isolation due to covid and I ordered online thinking it was delivery as I have used DoorDash in the past when ordering from kahani. I had actually ordered from mealnow thinking it was DoorDash and I had phoned the restaurant as well as the menu provider (mealnow) … as the later didn’t pick up I ended up venting my frustration with the restaurant… note that I wasn’t swearing at them, but I was using some “f” bombs in my dialogue. I am not happy about how I conducted myself and will formally apologize to the restaurant and staff. I had a friend collect the food and it was excellent… I have been going to kahani for 12+ years and it is by far my favorite in SE Qld.

Note that mealnow, doordash, Uber eats all tack on a premium - ie if you call the restaurant directly you get a main chicken curry for $20 but when ordering via the other sources it may be $24. Not sure what service is actually provided by mealnow as they do not deliver for the restaurant and the add in charges ended up being around $20.

Again, I let my frustration and misunderstanding get the better of me. All I wanted was my daniwhal chicken and had been looking forward to it all day. Lockdown is no fun and I sincerely am sorry for my frustration being vented on the...
