Papa Rolly's — Restaurant in Gold Coast City

We booked a 5pm seating and placed our order shortly after arriving. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty, we had to look for a waitress just to place our order. We ended up waiting over 45 minutes, and at 5:46pm, a waitress finally told us it would be “about another 5 minutes” , only after seeing my husband walking our hungry baby around outside.

I asked if we could please have just one piece of food..anything ready from the kitchen — because our baby couldn’t wait any longer. I clarified that we didn’t want to place a new order, just a small bite of something already prepared, even just one piece of pasta. Instead, they brought us a full plate of bread, but only along with our actual meals, which defeated the purpose entirely. To top it off, they charged us for the bread, even though we hadn’t asked for it and only accepted it to tide our baby over.

What made it more frustrating was seeing the 5:30pm table next to us receive their meals just minutes after us, a wait of around 15 minutes, compared to our 45+.

Really disappointing service, especially when dining out with a small child. A little more care and communication would have...

The gnocchi and carbonara completely lacking in flavor. The sauce tasted like it came straight from a jar, with no seasoning or depth. There was nothing fresh or homemade about it. We added chicken which was also flavourless.

The pepperoni pizza wasn’t any better. The crust was dry and bland, with barely any chew or crispness. The sauce was thin and forgettable, and the pepperoni slices were greasy and soggy. Rather than expected on a New York style pizza.

Garlic bread was advertised on the website as wood fired flat bread, mixed herbs and garlic oil. It was undesirable to say the least. 3 pieces of garlic bread for $18.

Overall, the meal could have been cooked at home with more flavour and 1/4 of the price. I won’t be coming back here ever. Overpriced too for such a newly established...

Where to start....

Too many tables squashed together inside so you can't move once you're seated even the wait staff couldn't get around the tables and had to hand us cutlery etc to pass around.

The service was poor. We waited ages for a drinks menu after arrival and then even longer to place an order. We didnt receive some drinks we ordered. We even witnessed bar staff pouring wine from glasses back into the bottle.

The food we ordered took almost an hour to get to our table and again we didnt receive all the food we ordered.

The calamari was basic like heated up frozen calamari from the supermarket. The Pizzas were ok not amazing but ok but they took far too long...
