We booked for a three course dinner with the Carpenters show "Superstar".
Arriving early we were greeted at the closed door and offered drinks whilst waiting. The wait staff were attentive and our cocktails arrived fast.
Seated at our table the atmosphere was late 80's style (dated), but clean and well set out. The seats were metal framed nylon cushioned.
It was obvious from the get go waiters had been instructed to sell as many drinks as possible. We no longer received our second round of drinks and were asked if we wanted another.
The band commenced and they were fantastic. They are a delight to listen too.
This is advertised as an Italian restaurant. There was no mention on the advertisement of it being a fixed alternate course of fish and chicken. We found that out when seated at our table. (Memories of the last cheap wedding we attended)
We received our first course, a bruschetta, the bread crust was crispy, oil tasty and not overdone, some fresh basil, but the advertised vine ripened rich tasting tomatoes were bland and under ripe.
The meals were obviously timed with band breaks but the gaps were quite stretched. One wondered what the mains would be like with all this time to.prepare.
The mains finally came, presentation disgusting, and tasted worse. The fish overcooked seated on a swill of what resembled powder reconstituted pumpkin with some kind of deep fried rice ball which I can only guess had been sitting and was now cold and oily.
The Chicken was so bland with no flavour what so ever, and sat in a swill of tin originated gravy, salty and cold. With a couple of beans and a small pile of powder reconstruction potato mash for good measure.
Both dishes were disgusting, and looking around the room the majority of patrons had left over half on their plates.
The band carried on and were amazing, true to their chosen singers origins. But these restaurant owners should be ashamed of themselves for what they served up.
When paying for our drinks purchased outside the meal/show package, I made sure to speak with the owner and conveyed the exact message above. Her response was to blame the chef who apparently was new. She did however respond by saying she would take our feedback onboard.
Hopefully these owners do something to lift their standards for other visitors. I can assure you we will never return here, and will do all we can to warn anyone mentioning their intention to...
ย ย ย Read moreSpaghetti & Jazz previously had a 5 star review from me, from the last time I visited 6 years ago.
Last night my partner and I took my parents for an evening at Spaghetti & Jazz, for their combined birthdays. Unfortunately, we were not impressed with the service or the food, and we will not be back.
My partner and I have gluten and dairy intolerances, so we ordered a pizza with a gluten-free base (extra $3 !!) and dairy-free cheese (an extra $4 !!).
The pizza came out, we could tell immediately that the GF base was not made in house, although the wait staff and the website says the pizzas are homemade. The base was soggy, had a nasty texture, was undercooked, and the pizza was cold. The dairy-free cheese was so sparse I thought they had forgotten to add it.
After paying $33 for a pizza we were very disappointed. My parents got a pizza too, it was also cold. We let the wait staff know and they took both away to heat them a bit more. When they came back they were barely any hotter, but we just wanted to eat and leave at this point.
The owner of the restaurant checked in our how our meals were, we explained they were still not hot, and that the gluten free base was soggy and wasn't good at all. Their response was "it's hard to make a good gluten free base"... We have had plenty of delicious gluten free pizza at restaurants before, there is even one available at Woolworths that is amazing.
The restaurant clearly doesn't take allergen friendly options seriously, if they just slap a poor quality GF base on the menu for $3 extra and call it done. Can the chef not work on a good recipe for a GF pizza base? I would not recommend dining here if you have any allergies or intolerances.
The live music was good, although the owner of the restaurant kept getting up on stage to join in singing on some of the songs, with varying levels of quality... More than once the owner used the mic to give orders to the staff while the main performer was singing.
Overall we were disappointed with food, the service, and the dated atmosphere of the restaurant. If you are going to charge premium prices, the food service and atmosphere need...

Even before you walk in you feel the Vibe of a small Italian restaurant, perhaps somewhere in the north, in a mountain town you've never heard of, but the guide suggested you should go there anyway. Rows of fairy lights along the fence and the roof are tasteful, providing just enough dim light to find your way, without breaking that dark mysteriousness. Upon entering you are greeted by a small number of friendly enthusiastic staff members, who seem genuinely willing to help you have a good time. Between their honest, polite service, and the musicians quietly pumping out the original, subtle yet feisty jams, you're immediately welcomed in, and encouraged to mellow out.
The food is simply perfect! Like, Michelin-star good, but without the pretentious bulshit! ๐
Then there's the drinks: I don't know where they found that bartender, but he will never be short of work (ask him to make you a Russian-mule if you don't believe me) ๐ฅ
It's not ridiculously expensive. I think it was about $120 for two of us, including drinks and entrees. I'm against tipping, but if I was that kind of person id have thrown down a $50 just for the positive attitude that team was bringing.
๐ Honestly, this is one of those few places that is so unforgivingly good, I was tempted to not write this review, rather keeping this secret to myself ๐คค But, here you go. Have fun, don't ruin it. I'll be back as soon as possible. It better still be there...
