We ordered a Mocca and late and a scone with jam and cream to share. The mocca was $6+ and tiny, but it did taste nice and was hot (prices are getting a little stir crazy in this world, right?).

But we also ordered a scone and after the coffee came - and the scone did not - I had to go up and pop in a reminder .......and was a bit surprised I didn't even get a friendly sorry.

The scone still did not come so I looked over to see if it was on the way and noticed the staff member preparing something with a somewhat worried look.....when it arrived I saw why....the squirty cream was liquidising on the plate in a pool of bright white sludge.....I guess the can had run out of gas and we got the last of it. it must be said the jam serve was very generous. And the scone was....okay.

Of course, this could have gone two ways....One way could have been the staff could come over and said their cream had run out and was not to par, and would we still like the scone or perhaps something else?

The other option was what we got....nothing said, because they didn't want to go to the bother or risk the customer opting out of the scone altogether.

Phew! Money and/or effort saved, thinks the owner. The junior was sent to deliver the sagging cream with scone and we didn't have the heart to make a fuss....my elderly Mum does not get out much and you kind wants those outings to be happy and positive and have a treat, not conflict.

So, let's wrap this up. Was that a good move for the owners?

Well, we won't go back the next time we visit the medical centre next door (which is several times a year). So that turned out to be not the best decision. But every cafe owner has choices to make and some will choose a dollar in the pocket today instead of considering the lifetime value of a customer. And that is their right, of course. There are lots of other customers out there. As are there cafes.

So it turns out everyone is...

I have been visiting here on and off since opening.

First up the coffee is always good.

The main reason I would continue in the past to come here over other coffee shops is a more well rounded menu, however...

I used to always get the hot pot. After a while it started coming out half warmed (microwaved?) and cold in places I went searching for other menu items. The light breakfast was a great option and the right price point for me (bacon and eggs are hard to mess up) but that was removed from the menu (I guess too affordable?)

So the latest menu item to disappoint is the omelette. 3 egg omelette that is quite possibly the most bland omelette I've ever had. Omelette only seems to have spinach inside and way too much that seemed to be add as an afterthought. Possibly microwaved but it had no texture to it at all. The side salad was wilted and lackluster.

They can toast Turkish bread alright.

This place has potential but for me now coffee only and only as a last resort since there are better coffee places in the Redlands.

Lastly the staff are always pleasant and enthusiastic but are way too interested in chatting with each other to pay attention to what they are doing. I think it's great having a fun working environment but you can't let that affect your situational awareness. Examples are when my wife's breakfast was given to her but mine was missed (paid for but not entered correctly in the register). These things happen but as a former waiter you see cues that a customer might be waiting for something or you remember generally what people have ordered. More than once I've had to question what was charged or noticed they didn't ask me how I want my eggs so had to prompt them.

Very nice people and I hope they take all of this as constructive. As a former hospitality worker from a family of them it's always frustrating when cafe staff and owners don't pay attention to the...

We ordered maple bacon waffles, avocado on toast and a pina colada smoothy.

Let me start with the good, the pina colada was amazing and highly recommended.

The avocado on toast, well it wasn’t really toasted it was more warmed up sour dough. For $15 I’ve had better else where. The citrus was basically lemon because that’s all you could taste, it was that strong you couldn’t taste the avocado. The balsamic vinegar was drizzled at the edge of the plate so you had to scrape it onto the “toast” in order to make it taste good. And no eggs either, which was a shame because it would have lifted this dish to the next level.

The maple bacon waffles looked amazing and tasted amazing too…. Until a bug was noticed in the sliced strawberry on the plate. Thank goodness we didn’t order a strawberry smoothie. When we told the staff they said they could remove the fruit from the plate.

I’m sorry you sliced the strawberry open and STILL put it on the plate and served it to a customer!!! Yes apologies were made “sorry let me remove that for you” though isn’t really what was expected when you show no concern, this doesn’t make your customers feel any better.

This was a hit then...

Today my daughter and I were looking for a gluten free place to eat for lunch due to me being a Coeliac. My daughter suggested the Coconut Coffee House at Cleveland in the Redlands just outside of Brisbane. Very pleasant, leisurely atmosphere and the food was excellent. The price was roughly what I had expected with gf requirements these days. Only drama was time we had to wait for our food, hence losing 1 star, but I believe they also do Uber Eats etc. I expressed at ordering I was a Coeliac and they took extra care with my food preparation. They told me they would wash the grill extra clean for me as I had ordered the bacon and egg toasty with their special tomato relish plus gf bread. It tasted delicious 😋 They do have a kids menu too! My daughter had the Big Breakfast which also has a gf option available. Great time with my eldest today. Xx

Visited the Coconut Coffee House Cafe with a friend and loved the decor and atmosphere they have created here. A little oasis in the city. I ordered the Veggie stack which was beautifully presented and tasted delicious with the pesto sauce and balsamic glaze and sauteed mushrooms. However, my only feedback (and the reason for 4 not 5 stars) is portion size. There was one small piece of sourdough toast and it felt so small considering the price was almost $26. I expect to get a very decent sized filling meal for that price...but instead I felt like eating something else after it. To end on a positive note, the "I am Passionate" smoothie we ordered was divine and the staff were very accommodating and were also very friendly/welcoming overall. I still recommend trying this Cafe, maybe just don't order the Veggie stack :)

Amazing food (healthy) and service, and great atmosphere. My only suggestion is to automatically include the extra shot in the large long black. Otherwise, we are just paying extra for hot water. But otherwise, this is the best cafe in the area. I had the bircher muesli today (great for your gut), and last time, I had a very light and fluffy and tasty scrambled eggs on sourdough. Good selection on their breakfast menu. Coffee tastes really good too.
