The Punjab curry club at Wellington Point, which is not part of the poorly reviewed chain of restaurants elsewhere was recommended to us by friends.
To preface, my partner is half Indian, her family have owned an Indian restaurant for over 10 years with my partners brother in law being the chef and her family running the front of house. Her brother in law was trained at the best hotel in New Delhi before moving to Australia, so this review is mostly on my partners behalf who is more knowledgeable than me and is also the main cook in our relationship too, I have never tried to cook these dishes unlike my partner who cooks these dishes regularly.
I tend to find restaurants have good food but poor service or great service and average food, here is a slight spoiler, we drove 30 minutes from Mount Gravatt to come try this place and we were not disappointed at all.
The restaurant itself is very simply decorated, not lavish or garish like some others lean towards although the lighting may be a little low.
The staff were all great, very friendly but not overbearing, but there when needed with a great attitude, suggestions and happy to help.
The food was all perfect, a butter paneer and naan is always a good way to tell if its a good restaurant, if they can't cook a butter paneer well and don't make proper fresh tandoor naans, the place is basically rubbish to us.
At the Punjab Curry Club that is not something you need worry about at all.
Both of the naans were fresh and cooked in a tandoor. The rice was perfect. For mains we had the butter paneer and dopiyaza which were delightful and cooked fresh to order. The chocolate naan which was new to us and we wouldn't have normally ordered as I love rasmalai and my partner loves gulab jamun but after everything else being so great we thought why not? The result, also a success.
We will be back for sure, probably sooner...
Read moreWe've been a regular at Punjab Curry Club for a while. It's a 36km round trip but the quality of food and service always makes it worthwhile. Recently, we were entertaining a small group for lunch on Saturday. Conveniently the cooktop decided to pack it in on Friday evening. The only option left was to order food in. My call was answered by Prab who was happy to discuss my requirements even though the restaurant was busy. She was kind enough to make some suggestions which I was quite happy to go with. The only issue was whether I could have the order organised for 11am pick up the next, which is outside their normal hours. She called me back within the hour after consulting with the kitchen and confirmed my order and pick up time for when I wanted. The next morning, I get a call from Rohit (owner) who reconfirmed my order and pick up time.
Now for the food. We ordered Chicken Handi and Matar Paneer with some Naan and Rice. The Chicken was simply divine. The Matar Paneer was prepared the way it's usually done at home. The guests were quite appreciative of the meal. Even some of the picky ones were keen to know where we ordered in from. That meal greatly contributed to us enjoying a pleasant weekend afternoon. To say I'm grateful to Rohit and his team would be an understatement. This restaurant is deserving of all the accolades...
Read moreSo we are over from the UK and went here with friends who could not speak highly enough of it. You order your meal on a small Lenovo tablet and enter your name at the same time this is then recorded to your table and you pay against your name and table when leaving. The food was just ok - poppadoms are small and seem undercooked and come with a tiny chutney tray (probably ok for 2 people not 8 like our group) curry was just OK with chicken not well seasoned and the (peshwari) nann was again just ok. BUT the staff at the till then tried to overcharge me - my bill for 2 adults and 2 children was $113 dollars so I paid on card and asked for receipt went out and just happened to check the receipt - it said $133, back inside I go and see the same cashier and tell here I think I have been over charged, she did not even check the receipt to check if what I was saying was true she just gave me a $20 dollar bill and said sorry. To sum the Punjab up would be good atmosphere, good ordering system, ok food, and be careful they don't...
