Very disappointing. Easter Sunday lunch at the newly expanded RSL Sails restaurant seemed like a good idea. It wasn't. We hoped for, being at a nautically themed RSL overlooking part of the Raby Bar Harbour, was that Bayside lunch favourite, fish and chips but after carefully reading the lengthy new menu we discovered that f & c is only available on Mondays as a special. Strange decision. You can order chips as a side with the barra with lemon-butter sauce or with grilled salmon (as one of us did) or you can opt for calamari and chips or a crumbed seafood basket which includes chips - just not a 'basic' plate of fish and chips. The salmon arrived alongside a strange looking squirt of cold purplish soft but lumpy and not very pleasant tasting 'Congo potatoes' - apparently very healthy eating but not a great combination with salmon in our opinion. The remainder of our party chose roast pork or roast beef brisket. Brisket is known as a tough meat and not normally offered as a roast so we should have been warned. It can be done, though, if carefully slow cooked. A few small parts of the beef, were in fact quite tender and tasty - but most of the few remaining lean portions (in amongst fatty strips) were so tough the knife provided wouldn't even cut through it. The gravy was basically a pepper sauce which overpowered the meat. The roast pork turned out to be an extremely fatty piece of pork belly with almost no lean meat and not even crispy crackling. It was basically inedible unless you enjoy eating soft fat - it was not 'roast pork' in the usual sense. I give two stars - one for the veges - which were nicely cooked - and one for the new restaurant itself which has been very nicely renovated. We did complain to one of the staff about the meals but we were advised (very pleasantly, I admit) that that was just the way meals were prepared at Sails and the menu descriptions possibly failed to totally match the products that the kitchen produced. Two of the group are members of this club and have eaten here numerous times with mixed results (and the offerings at the cafe near the entrance are basic but reliably good) but after this experience Sails is not a restaurant we will be bothering with again. It would be nice to receive a...

Read moreFood is lovely and you have to book a take for Fridayand Saturday night, We went there on a Wednesday night and my daughter had put her child in the play centre which you have to pay for and there is supposed to be a qualified person watching them and they are not allowed out unless the parent goes and gets them and my husband and I arrived a little later and as we walked through the doors and came around the bar area here was our little 2yr old grand son standing there by himself crying we quickly picked him up and said where is mummy and he said I don't know 😕 we then proceeded to where our table was and said to our daughter we found - said child outside by himself and she just lost it and said how on earth did he get out he was supposed to be in the care of a supervisor in the childcare play room. So my daughter went up to ask to speak to the manager and she came over to us and my daughter and i explained to her what happened and she just said ohh sorry but your son shouldn't have been in there anyway 😕 as it's 4yrs and up but my daughter said No One told her that and that there was a 1 and a half yr old in there too so my daughter said come with me and I will show you . So they went in - The manager spoke to the very young girl that was in charge of all the kids but that was it. The manager didn't even offer my Daughter her money back or say hey I can give the kids a free ice cream for any inconvenience. Yes she is glad her son and I'm glad my grandson is OK but it could have turn out very different if we were not there . He could have been taken or walked straight out though the doors...
