We booked "Dawat"restaurant to celebrate my daughters birthday on 12th oct.2024.I personally visited the place to sort out arrangements .Every minute detail was discussed with the owner. Mr Jimmy (the owner) behavior on the whole remain non professional.I expected a good atmosphere for the party but to my dismay after paying a good amount for the party the event was managed below average infact very poor..The owner turned down any support we required to make the event successful. I had to book the entire restaurant just because Mr Jimmy kept squeezing time and insisted to book the whole premises. After all efforts and finances made for the party the event was poorly managed .Keeping in view my experience on 12th oct I would not recomend the restaurant for any event.Do not waste your money for a pathetic experience. I payed the total amount but till I was on the premises I was shocked how the staff misquoted to start dinner early as kitchen will close earlier. Many such things happened which became very irritatable.I strongly persist to avoid bookings at Dawat The food item of chicken was not refilled though it was said that food would be unlimited. The mutton curry was removed earlier and was not handed over to bring home. The dessert "Carrot halwa"was placed for a while and removed.Non of the guests had it nor it was packed for take away. Staff insisted to start the dinner by 7pm saying the kitchen will close by 9pm but at 8.30 staff started saying we are closing the kitchen n removing food . Mr Jimmy behavior remained non...
Read moreAfter reading all the good reviews we thought of ordering from this restaurant tonight through Menulog. I ordered butter chicken, two garlic nanns, raita, rice and papadams. I’m sorry to say but this is probably the worst Indian meal I’ve had here in Hobart. First of all, I’ve never seen such a red coloured butter chicken in my life. It was so red I could say it was almost neon red. And I wonder if they are using food colouring to make it so red. The flavour of the butter chicken was probably close to a vindaloo. Now I’m wondering if they mistook my butter chicken order for a chicken vindaloo, because it had no creaminess to it, nor did I taste the flavour of cashews or almonds. The nanns were very underwhelming and again with a red colour mixed in with the garlic. The raita, and the mint sauce that came with the papadams were so overly sweet and could not taste the flavours at all. Also, the bag that the papadams came in was broken from the side and were falling out when received. And the delivery took close to an hour to reach, which was painfully long. I’m only giving a 1 star because of the rice, which seemed freshly made. Overall, a very disappointing meal...
Read moreWe had a very upsetting experience near the United Petrol Station in Rosny. After being told by the petrol station that they had no toilet available, we noticed Dawat Indian Restaurant next door and quickly used their restroom, assuming it would be okay in an urgent situation. To our shock, the person from the restaurant came outside and began shouting at us in the middle of the road for using the toilet without asking. It was extremely embarrassing and unnecessary—especially considering it was an emergency and the restroom wasn’t marked “private” or locked. While we understand businesses have rules, there’s a basic level of human decency and understanding that was completely missing here. According to Tasmanian health regulations, restaurants offering dine-in services are generally expected to provide toilet access for patrons—and treating people harshly over a basic human need, particularly in a moment of urgency, is simply not acceptable. We left feeling shocked and humiliated. Based on this experience, we would not consider dining at Dawat Indian Restaurant, and we hope the management reflects on how they treat members of the public—even in...
