Tucked away in the heart of Hobart, Sonny is a wine bar that oozes charm and character, making it a must-visit spot for anyone in town. From the moment you step inside, you're enveloped in an eclectic atmosphere that feels like a secret haven for wine lovers and food enthusiasts alike. The dim lighting casts a cozy glow over the room, while vinyl records spin timeless tunes, adding to the retro vibe. Every seat was filled when we arrived, and it was easy to see why this place is the kind that invites you to linger.
The food menu is a testament to creativity and seasonality, changing daily to showcase the best local produce. Each dish we tried was an explosion of flavor and texture, thoughtfully balanced and beautifully presented. The attention to detail is evident in every bite, making it clear that the kitchen here is passionate about their craft. The fettuccine pork verde was the standout, absolutely amazing!
The wine list at Sonny is equally impressive, with a carefully curated selection that spans the globe. We opted for a bottle of Italian sparkling, which paired perfectly with the vibrant dishes we enjoyed. The service was outstanding, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming, ensuring that our experience was seamless from start to finish.
This was our second visit to Sonny, and once again, it did not disappoint. The consistency in quality and atmosphere is remarkable, and we felt right at home. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Sonny is a wine bar you can't afford to miss. We canât...
Read moreWe popped into Sonny on a Sunday afternoon, not long after theyâd opened for the evening, and the little wine bar was already bustling. Despite the busy atmosphere, we were warmly greeted straight away and told there might be a short waitâbut theyâd love to have us and would keep us posted. Within a few minutes we were invited inside to wait near the kitchen at the back. The space is intimate and open-plan, with a moody, welcoming atmosphere and great records spinning on the player.
The waiter who looked after us was an absolute joyâenergetic, upbeat, and genuinely warm. We started with a cocktail while we waited to be seated, and shortly thereafter found ourselves tucked into a cosy spot for what turned into an unexpectedly incredible meal.
The menu is not extensive, but every dish we tried was exceptional. We started with the âlovelyâ cheese plate (an apt description), followed by a divine caramelised onion toast, beautifully braised goat, and a broccoli pasta that was surprisingly complex and satisfying. Each plate surpassed our expectations. Everything was delicious, beautifully balanced, and made with real care.
We had a few cocktails throughout the evening, enjoyed the ambient lighting, and even thanked the chef on our way outâhe was just as lovely as the rest of the team.
A warm, stylish, and seriously enjoyable spot with great food, great music, and great people. Arrive early, dress up and enjoy this...
Read moreMy kind of place, and one of the best dining experience I've had, not just in Hobart, but ever! I wish they were in Brisbaneđ
First tip: Go early! We just arrived Hobart, checked into our accomadation and headed straight there. We waited outside in line for over an hour, but it was so worth it!
You feel the warm energy from the staff as soon as you enter this place; it's a whole vibeđ They have an old record player that keeps spinning some awesome tunes all night, and at one point- everyone in the bar was singing along to Queen!
Apparently the menu changes regularly and they also have daily specials. We just left it to the staff and ordered a plate of everything. Everything is designed to share and you will beso full, you may waddle out.
I won't name everything that I had as it may not be on the menu anymore but everything we had was incredibly delicious, and the wine was incredibleđ This really is one of my Fave wine bars ever!
So if you have been thinking of trying this place- just go! Think warm and cosy for date nights, and my top pick for wine and food lovers. You won't be...
