Down in Tas for a few days. Met up with a mate just before 8pm at the Sports Bar at Shoreline. By about 8.30 (I think it was closer to 8.20 but I'll give leeway) it was all over as they'd called last drinks. Website says 11pm - to be fair it does say 'hours subject to trade' so to others considering a catch up with friends the venue seems fit for purpose but don't count on it being reliably open.
They were accommodating when I asked for food but told me I had 2 mins to decide. But they made the pizza so I can give points there.
Ordered a drink and got served a different one. I didn't think it was a big deal so I didnt mention it but it was just another one of those 'little things' that added up.
Staff as mentioned above ended up getting the food but it did seem a lot of trouble and I thought I was probably a nuisance to them. I don't expect silver service and a smile but even ordering a drink it was pretty cold from the bartend.
We also did wonder whether the whole place was closing or just the sportsbar section but we weren't told and all of those 'little things' added up to us not bothering to ask so we won't hold it against them because we didn't ask but at the same time if management reads this and other areas do remain open then its worth telling your staff to let people know that.
Overall, it seems a fine enough venue for purpose. Staff were somewhat accomodating but the overall vibe was they could've hardly cared less. Food when brought out was fine but perhaps being clearer about cut off times for food on the website would be useful. And certainly the biggest drawback for us is the unreliability of opening times - we understand it - but there doesn't seem to be another alternative nearby so if they do close early you are a bit stuck - probably unlikely to choose the venue again for...
Read moreUpon arrival staff were unsure whether they were able to even seat us- a table for two, which took me back a bit as I had observed a large dining area with very few patrons. I advised the staff it was my birthday and I was ravenous, could they please accommodate us, at which point they seated us on barstools near the doorway, where we had cold gusts of wind blow in the door with the foot traffic every thirty seconds for the duration of our meal. We could clearly see half a dozen actual seated tables that remained empty for the duration of our meal, but were not made available or offered to us.. instead we were offered barstools in an alley way entrance, which truly made me feel like a less than valued customer. It wouldn't have taken any effort to seat me at a table for my birthday steak, but instead it felt like a pointed effort to make me uncomfortable, and shuffle me on as quickly as possible. The meals were sadly quite unimpressive.. my porterhouse was cooked perfectly, however a rather miserly portion for a birthday steak, and the chips and slaw that was supposed to come with all items from the grill turned out to be just a bed of chips with no slaw in sight. If you want a decent value meal with great atmosphere, you will not find it at Shoreline Hotel. Management response claimed my untouched steak was half eaten, which it wasn't, picture is of untouched plate. Also claimed I asked for no slaw, but my date and I both remember clearly asking for chips AND slaw. This dive has failed miserably in my estimations, both in service and in their sarcastic and unrepentant response.. humility goes a long way in customer service and so does an apology, but only someone trained in being hospitable would know that. I will now go out of my way to tell people about my less than average...
Read moreThis about the Sunday lunch offered in the Shoreline cafe Sunday 3rd May 2025:
We live in Howrah and regularly visit the Shoreline hotel for lunch or dinner.
Today we had lunch in the cafe section and the TV specials screen advertised roast lamb as one of the specials for the day. My husband duly ordered this and it was not a truthful representation of what it was.
It was clearly two slices of meat - presumably from a previous leg of roast lamb - but it had been reheated and pan fried, with the obvious brown pan marks on both sides, rendering it overdone and dry.
My husband pointed this out and was assured several times that it was roast lamb. Weâre both excellent cooks and it is both insulting and frustrating to be lied to. It might have been roast lamb the first time around, but the second time around it was a slice of meat that had been pan fried. We have the capacity to tell the difference.
He arranged for a replacement meal as no refund had been offered. We would rather that the kitchen and staff said that the lamb had run out than try to fry an older piece of lamb and pretend it was acceptable. It was advertised on your screen as one of the specials of the day. Most people know what a fresh slice of roast lamb looks like.
Perhaps you think you can get away with this because thereâs not many dining out options available in this area and you are correct on the latter. However donât misrepresent your meals to customers. We are regulars; are willing to pay well for our meals but do not tolerate being robbed off or assumed to be...
