I really hate having to do this and I dont normally leave negative feedback but my experience on Saturday night at Spice Market Karrinyup was pretty bad. Had a big family dinner there. QR code for ordering at the table. You order then pay at the counter. Well so many of us were ordering and some hadn't finished ordering yet when the lady came up to me and shoved an eftpos machine into my face and said I had to pay the entire bill for the table at that time. She wouldnt even let us finish ordering. She said theres no split billing. So then I said can the rest of the table finish ordering then. She was insistant that I had to pay there and then. I paid the $315 for the first half of the table that had ordered so far. Then she comes up to me again 10 minutes later with the eftpos machine and tells me to pay again another $275 for the rest of the tables orders ( which were not mine. I had already finished ordering with the first payment). My brother then paid that amount and we had to work out who owed who what the next day. Every other restaurant I have been to where you order via the QR code at the table allows you to pay immediately online there and then. Other restaurants that don't have the QR code ordering system allow you to pay at the end and everyone transfers the money to one person to pay the bill or each person goes to the counter to order and pay straight away and you just give them your table number. The system Spice Market currently have with the QR order from the table doesn't work with big groups and the way the lady shoved the machine at me felt rude and intrusive. Now to the food. Pad Thai and Sukiyaki noodles were delicious. Chicken satay sticks were bland and cold. Garlic and chive dumplings were soggy and tasteless. Spring rolls were hard and just tasted like the cheap ones you get from the freezer section at Coles. The Pina Colada was $20 and very underwhelming. The fried icecream was nice but its the first time I've had it so cant really compare it to...
Read moreWe recently visited for a special occasion with a large group of 20 people. The whole experience felt way more difficult than it needed to be, with policies that seemed rigid rather than customer-friendly.
First, no bookings were allowed, not even for a large group. We tried in advance but were told it was first come, first served. We would have been happy to pay a deposit. When we arrived, we were given a 30-40 minute wait time and told we should have come earlier—despite the fact that booking wasn’t even an option.
We did get our table well before the 40 minutes. Then came the no split bills policy, even though we ordered through a QR code from the table. If the system can track individual orders and direct food to the right person, why not allow payments the same way? Instead, the only option was to pay at the counter, which can create unnecessary hassle at the end of the meal.
What really left a bad impression was the payment timing. Just a few minutes into eating, a server approached and insisted I come inside to pay immediately. I said I’d be happy to do so after I finished my meal, but she insisted it had to be done now. She claimed it was policy that she had told me earlier, which simply wasn’t true. She left only to retun with an Eftpos machine, standing over me. To top it off, after I had paid nearly $800 for the group, I later saw my daughter being charged $0.73 for a takeaway box—a small detail, but one that really added insult to injury.
The food itself was ok, but by the end of the night, it hardly mattered. The rigid policies and unnecessary pressure around payment overshadowed the meal and made for an underwhelming experience. Many of these issues could be easily fixed with a little flexibility and a focus on customer experience—things that are standard practice elsewhere. I am sure you can do better...
Read moreFOOD POISONING at Spice Market Thai -Karringyup - 13-05-24 - DO NOT EAT AT ( SPICE MARKET THAI ) Karringyup Monday lunch time I don’t really write bad reviews but the experience I went through today was debilitating.
I experienced the worst kind of food poisoning, I’ve ever had , to the feeling I had collapsed after I left the restaurant after about 10 minutes .
I have eaten at the ( Spice Market Thai ) restaurant in Karringyup many times .
Today it was a Monday lunch , I thought I’d try something different. I put my order with the waitress and I did notice the order came out in minutes like they had it already been cooked . I thought it was Way too quick for it to come out like it did . Very unusual, to cook it that quickly. I had seafood ( Mixed Herb Scallops) x 3 Plus I ordered ( Satay Chicken sticks ) . Well my sickness from the food put me in so much pain. I had severe Diarrhoea, with in minutes after leaving the restaurant. I’m writing this review from my bed tonight , still quite ill. I tried calling them . No Answer. Funny thing is I went back onto their site tonight to see their menu and the Scallops dish was removed that’s too coincidentally that it was not on their menu . Why !!! . I’m writing this to warn others . I’m a Thai food fan for many years . Not any more . See the photos of the Menu that I ordered from today at lunch Then see the photo of it not on the Menu tonight . Extremely sad that I experienced such an illness that could have been avoided if the food was fresh .some reason I can’t add the photos but I have them...
