3 of us booked with high hopes, looking forward to decent Thai food, encouraged by the 5 stars. Despite its title, this is essentially a food court style eatery, not a restaurant.
There was a problem with the food order, that delayed us for about 20 minutes, but things go wrong sometimes and that is not the reason for the 1 star.
The reasons for the 1 star are: The food was not great. The service was terrible. The water with the food came out after 30 mins. The pad Thai was the only dish to come out on time, after waiting for 5 mins and the remaining dishes did not appear, I asked the waiter to take the untouched pad Thai back.
When the other two dishes arrived, the original un re-heated pad Thai was returned to the table. Clearly noone takes a pride in their food here. We sent the dish back and did not wish it replaced. The drinks we ordered with the meal finally arrived after the food.
We have learnt something valuable today, we will not go back nor use it as a takeaway.
I suspect the reason for the 5 stars is the promise of "a free drink if you leave a Google review." If you have finished your shopping and fancy some mediocre food in a noisy setting, this is your place. The view was nice though.
Thank you for your reply below.
Much of what you have been told by your staff is not correct. Specifically; the '2nd' pad thia' was cold when it was re served at the table, it was not even re-heated! We were not at all happy when we left we just chose not to make a scene. I will not re visit your establishment, nor...
Read moreThis has been our go to Thai place every 2nd Sunday for a few months now (we love Gons cooking and hospitality). Went there tonight at 5pm to have dinner (7 people) but was told the place was fully booked (even though there was nobody there and only some tables carried reservation signs). I asked what time is it fully booked and Kris the lady at front desk said from 5.30 to 6pm. I said we would only be an hour but she said nope...she did say we could sit in the food court outside the restaurant if we wanted! Anyway we decided to head to the Spice Market at the other end of the shopping centre. At about 6.30pm we went back just to check how full the place was. It was empty bar a table in the corner. We queried Kris as to why the place was empty when she told us it was fully booked. She said there were cancellations. Her total lack of welcoming customer service and her rudeness were next level...both times. In the end we said we wont be back and she said good...dont come back! Not sure she knows the hospitality industry that well. No drama...if Gon is there, we will be back...if not we will take our fortnightly...
Read moreDined here a few times, each time with friendly customer services. If you get window seatings, the view is a bonus. The place is well maintained and has a nice atmosphere for dining but it‘s never busy (in-house) for the times we’ve been here so wait times is never too long before your orders arrive at the table. If you love a good Thai cuisine and and have been to many good Thai restaurants in Perth then this may not live up to your expectations. Green chicken curry had great flavours and was our favourite dish. Crispy pork belly (small bites) was over-cooked and hard while coconut prawn wasn’t to our liking, the flavours and textures just didn’t go well together. Pad Thai was too light in flavours. We’ve also tried the whole barramundi in 3 flavour sauces, good presentation and not too bad in flavour but we’ve definitely had better (and bigger portion) elsewhere in Perth. There are 2 Thai restaurants within Karrinyup Shopping Centre, one is definitely superior over the other. Try for yourself, especially if you don’t have much time to...
