I recently had the pleasure of spending 3.5 weeks in Kingscliff, visiting from the US (split my time between New York, San Francisco, and SoCal). Those metro areas are becoming saturated with juice bars and coffee shops, including many that are Aussie-inspired; now I totally understand why. They’re trying to capture the magic I experienced at The Salt Mill, which nails it from lattes to avo toast to smoothie bowls. Most of my mornings started with a latte here (always satisfying), and I often supplemented with a filling bite after my morning workout. The avo toast is probably the best I’ve ever had, with a fantastic blend of spices (coriander!) and seeds adding a ton of flavor. The Coconut & Cacao açaí bowl with added peanut butter became my staple order, overflowing with goodness and tropical fruits. Even the chia pudding, paired with full-fat yogurt and some fruit compote (mango or raspberry) was a standout. Friendly faces, great vibes, excellent food, and a fantastic part of any day in Kingscliff.

I recently ordered two coffees and a pear Danish from this spot in Kingscliff. I was pleasantly surprised when the lady at the counter told me my order would be ready in just “2 minutes.” However, it ended up taking over 15 minutes. Had I known, I could have easily gone for a walk instead of waiting around on my phone. That said, the quality made up for the wait. The coffee is probably the best you’ll find in Kingscliff—smooth, rich, and just what I needed. The pear Danish was also delicious: fresh, flaky, and perfectly sweet. Overall: If you’re after top-notch coffee and a tasty pastry, this place is a great choice. Just be aware that the wait time might be longer than promised, so consider taking a stroll while your order is being prepared. I’ll definitely be back for the coffee and pastries, but I hope the service gets a bit quicker!

The coffee here is the best of all the great coffee in Kingscliff, IMHO. Rich, sweet chocolatey with some hazelnut. The pre-prepared sandwiches, croissants and other goodies in the display cabinet also looked delicious. Service was fast and friendly. Went back to try the food. The first half of the Rueben was delicious, but by the end of the second half, the intensity of the pickles and the sauerkraut started to overpower cheese and corned beef. The ham and cheese croissant was nice, albeit squashed by the sandwich press. I know everyone does it, and it seems strange to squash out the fluffiness that the baker worked so hard to get. Microwave does a much better job. Sitting in the cool attached eating area, it seemed strange to be eating and drinking out of takeaway cardboard, surrounded by the abundant eco-friendly, reusable eatware.

Here on holidays, our first time in Kingscliff. Headed down at 7am to grab a couple takeaway coffees and to try out this place as we have tried a few others in town. Got my order taken by one of your employees that looked lifeless and probably preferred to be on the other side of the counter socialising with her local buddies. It makes me very uncomfortable when I'm the one with great manners and the person serving can't crack the slightest of smiles..the other two lady employees at the counter seemed to follow suit. Maybe I wasn't cool enough like the the loud mouth eccentric bloke grabbing a takeaway that seemed like one of the friends. After all that, the two coffees were very milky when I return to my accommodation to try. Not good especially when one is double shot in a small cup. I won't be returning unless it means in the mean time I buy myself an affends brand shirt with $300.00 sunnies, snapback cap and a white shirt and I maybe have a chance in with the cool group. I should know better.after all, what's the chances of great coffee when there's no smiles. Happy staff helps to guarantee...

Lovely staff and great coffee and snacks, but really disappointed with the cafes use of disposable cups and approach to waste management. Too many customers are using a disposable cup and lid to sit in and drink their coffees, which is just appalling. Would love to see the cafe do more to curb this behaviour, perhaps charging more for takeaway? Serving in a ceramic cup as standard? Encouraging customers to take a few minutes drink their coffee on the spot? Or pushing customers (especially regulars) to bring their own cups? There are many solutions to this problem!

Edit: (Reply to owner 08.01.19) Thanks for your reply! I think that any business who is positioned in the 'takeaway' category has a responsibility to ensure that the waste they and their customers generate is minimised as much as possible and dealt with in the right ways. Could you share more information about your biodegradable and compostable cups, lids etc.? What...
