This review I neither positive nor negative, just honest feedback which I hope will be positively taken on board.
Good points: Pleasant setting, good shade, staff friendly and great for kids. Coffee and juices were great.
Improvements: Food was average. Avocado on toast, what I would consider now an Aussie breakfast staple, was disappointing. Merely a smear of avocado purée that had zero flavour, not one nice flavoursome avocado “chunk” to be seen... Partner had the chilli egg scramble which couldn’t be finished, scramble was brutally over cooked and tasted oily, like it came off an old bbq grill, ruining any light fresh egg flavour. Also looked like it came off an old bbq grill...
The wooden cable tables outside are nice, but if you’re over 5’7 you can’t comfortably sit under them. Partner and I had to sit with our legs out from under the table and twist to eat our food. If this was my place, I would raise the table height to make guests comfortable.
Finally, and this is what prompted me to leave this review, hearing what I can only assume to be the new owner dining next to us, discussing with his guests creative ways that they can make more more money from “people from Sydney” such as “people from Sydney buy flowers all the time in restaurants - like the single rose flowers at tourist hot spots, they’re put on the spot in front of their date and don’t want to look like a cheap skate so they’ll buy” - as a person from Sydney, it’s not nice to hear that you only see us as $$$, and stupid enough to be guilted into buying flowers to not look cheap... Do not force this upon your patrons, it’s certainly not a “Sydney” thing to do... Flowers on a stand could be cute though. My main point here is, probably best not to loudly discuss your business in front of...
Read moreNew location, new menu, new disappointment, Mockingbirds was one of my all time favorite cafes, even when moving a one hour drive away I would still go there on days off. Today was my first time in the new location and was sorely disappointed. Menu was limited. Burgers came with a bowl of smiths chips. The amazing Service and general vibe that was the normal of the front street location is gone. The fresh muffins and slices that used to greet you at the counter, tempting you is now off to the side and looks passable instead of tempting. I drove home and got an acai bowl from another cafe I was so unsatisfied. The other half stopped and got a packet of KFC HOT chips not smiths chips along the drive home. To sum it up, we will not be back, and its a sad day, scratching an old favorite off the recommended...
Read moreFabulous! Wonderful! Amazing! We dined here recently after reading the reviews and we were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the service was outstanding. The owners of this little cafe have trained their staff so well - all young folk but all providing the same consistent amazing service. One young man, Matthew, worked the room so well - his confidence and charm and attentiveness is far beyond his years. What a delight! Now to the food - sensational. The menu has something for everyone - healthy, sinful, vegetarian, meat eaters, traditional, unique - Mockingbird has it all. The meals came out quickly and the flavours exceeded our expectations. The price point was also really good. I will definitely be back next time I am...
