Note: I hear this bakery has changed hands, so the below may no longer be relevant.
I should start this by saying that I've been to 95% of bakeries within four hours of Perth. This is--without question--the worst one.
Because this is the only bakery in town, it's not uncommon to queue for five minutes at peak hour. After all that waiting, you're greeted with a handwritten "Cash Only" sign. No worries, you'll just walk to the IGA down the road and get cash out. Wrong. There you will be greeted by another sign, this one saying "No Cash Out". At this point, the persistent luncher will ask a member of IGA staff a question they hear in their nightmares: "Where in this God-forsaken wasteland of a town does one get cash out for a pie?". Now begins your walk to the Bendigo bank around the corner.
Who is even with Bendigo?
Well, no one is with Bendigo, so I hope you are willing to spend an extra $2.50 for that pie. If so, now begins the final leg of your pilgrimage...
After another five minutes of waiting, you approach the counter, and a meagre offering of thawed pies and pre-packaged desserts presents itself to you. You decide on a chunky steak pie.
"No chunky steak" you are scolded without apology.
Oh well, a plain pie it is. Oh, and before you forget, two bottles of water for the road.
"Fifteen ninety."
15.90? That can't be right. You glance back at the pie prices on the wall. A pie is only $5.90. It dawns on you that you have been scalped $10 for two bottles of water, but at this point it's too late to argue; the queue behind you is getting restless. You pay with your $20 note, take your change and leave.
Out to the park you go. You take one bite of your pie and realise the extent of your error. Three painful bites later and you ultimately decide to leave your lunch to the seagulls, who mock you as you do so, as they knew this moment was coming.
You get back in the car and swear to never visit Lancelin again. As you sit down, the $4.10 falls out of your pocket and is lost forever. You've spent $22.50 and are no less hungry than when you arrived. Game over.
Heed my words, weary traveller. Let this story be a lesson and...
Read moreAfter frequenting this bakery for over 20 years I was treated as if they didn't want customers any more. We stopped at 2:30 for a quick feed and purchased a meat & mushroom pie. It was decent size but After a few bites I quickly found there was little meat and more gluggy filler. I thought it might have just been my Pie that wasn't good but my wifes and 4 x others from the family friends we were with also made comments saying they were terrible. 2 people didn't eat the pies and threw them away. Would definitely not buy another pie from this bakery any time soon especially with the current and more recent owners. The jam & cream donut I purchased however was great but still wouldn't go back as service was lacking and would much rather give my money to...
Read moreI was intrigued by the polarisation of the scores, and with no other choices on this stretch of road, at lunch time, with two hungry children in the back, we decided to try it out. About 3.7 (average score) is right. Vietnamese run bakery churning out your average bakery fare. At 1pm they were sold out of most goods. The only pies left were curry. Definitely not a first choice but luckily not too much curry. Bacon and cheese sausage roll was underwhelming. Standard bakery desserts done well. All in all an acceptable lunch stop. It probably is the best bakery in Lancelin, but I wouldn’t make a special...
