Had two dinners recently while staying in Ouyen for a group birding trip. Got the impression this was the best place to go in town for a meal, not sure what other options there are in Ouyen. The food was decent and the service was pleasant but delivery from the kitchen was abysmally slow and uncoordinated. We were a group of 9 and on the first night it was 15-20 minutes between the first meal being delivered and the last meal delivered, and then when several of us ordered desert another 20+ minutes to wait for that. Gave them the benefit of the doubt for the first night (maybe understaffed in the kitchen, etc.), but we experienced the same thing the second night as well, of the 3 appetizers ordered, 2 were delivered in time but the third came half way through the meal. For the meals, about 30-40 minutes between first and last meals delivered to the table. I was the last to get served and everyone else was just waiting on me to get served so I could wolf it down as quick as possible in order to get going. The wait staff was very nice and apologetic (mostly kids it seemed like) so don’t want to take it out on them, but the kitchen definitely needs to up its game on coordinating food to the table, and getting it there in a...

Read moreI'm staying at the hotel and have been here for almost 2 weeks. If you are used to the Intercontinental then this place might not be for you but if you come in imaging what an old pub should be like then you'll be mighty happy.
It is old. But I have fresh towels daily. A warm shower. And a bed, though not as good as what is at home, that is more than comfortable.
The room itself is small but I'm at work so it isn't a concern. They do have other sizes and some with water. You'd think with close to, or over 50 rooms, you'd have problems waiting for showers etc. but I've never had to wait.
I've been working shifts and noise hasn't been a problem either. Even on the weekends.
I'm not much of a bar person but have stopped by and had one or two beers and it's nice to have a drink in a place that hasn't been all fancied up for the yuppy crowd.
If you're heading up or down the Calder Hwy stay a night. I've had some great conversations with passing through travellers and most have said they are repeat customers. That's a great...
