As a Filipino, I had high hopes and really wanted to love the food. This review isnât meant as criticism, but as helpful feedback for the owners to consider.
The food overall was okay â not the best, but certainly not the worst either. Some dishes could definitely benefit from improvement. For example, the Bicol Express didnât taste like the traditional version Iâm familiar with. The sauce was quite unusual, and it didnât capture the classic flavours of the dish.
The pancit also missed the mark â it had two types of noodles (thick noodles and glass noodles), but the glass noodles were tough and didnât blend well. The overall flavour and recipe could use refinement.
The beef kare-kare had a very thick sauce, the eggplant was undercooked, and unfortunately, the kare-kare flavour just wasnât there.
On the positive side, we really enjoyed the sinigang and the crispy pata â both were delicious! And as always, your breakfast dishes and kakanin (like hopia and breads) are consistently amazing.
However, the service also needs improvement. During our visit, no one came to check if the food was okay or if we needed anything else. All the staff seemed to be at the back. It would be helpful to have someone assigned specifically for front-of-house service, while others manage the kitchen and counter.
Weâd love to see some improvements to the lunch menu and service, but weâll definitely be back for breakfast and your...
Read moreWe visited Winstonâs Bake Shop and Resto yesterday, excited because weâve always enjoyed their Filipino baked goods like pandesal, cassava cake, and hopia. Winston usually does a fantastic job with Filipino sweets, so we decided to try their savory dishes this time.
We ordered fried chicken and chips, Bicol express, pancit, crispy pata, and kare-kare. Food came out of the kitchen quickly. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. While the portion sizes were decent, the flavors fell short of our expectations. The fried chicken lacked seasoning and wasnât as crispy as weâd hoped. The Bicol express didnât have much heat or the rich, creamy sauce typical of the dish. It was more Gravy. The pancit was edible but wasnât a classic. The kare-kare sauce was okay. But the egg plants could have benefitted with a bit more cooking. The Crispy Pata was tasty. No complaints from me.
We heard some good things about their meat pies but unfortunately did not see any.
We still love Winstonâs for their baked goods, and weâll definitely come back for pandesal and cassava cake.
However, based on this experience, weâd probably skip the main...
Read moreAbsolutely loving the new Winston Bakeshop! I have been a loyal customer since their Browns Plains shop, and it is been such a joy to watch them grow and open this beautiful new place. The new location is bright, clean, and full of charm. It truly feels like a slice of home.
What makes it even better is their expanded menu. They have added so many delicious Filipino dishes, and everything I have tried so far tastes just like something you would enjoy at a family gathering. From the classic pandesal to their sweet treats and now the ulam options, it is clear everything is made with care and love. The staff are passionate about what they do, always warm, welcoming, and they make you feel right at home.
This has quickly become one of my favourite spots, and I cannot wait to bring my whole family next time. If you are craving authentic Filipino flavours or just want a cozy place with amazing food and friendly faces, Winston Bakeshop is the place to be. Congratulations to the whole team on this exciting new chapter. You have done an incredible...
