Birdcage Hotel — Restaurant in Longreach

Sadly, the worst meal I’ve experienced.......ever. I chose the Pork Ribs...most expensive choices on the menu...fall off the bone they said. Very disappointed. Waited close to an hour for the meal. The Ribs were tough, nowhere near fall off the bone, with no flavour at all. I struggled through 2 ribs, then sent the meal back. I haven’t done that for a very long time. No offer of a replacement...just a “sorry”. To top it off they forgot my wife’s meal......waited a further 10 minutes for her Whiting to be served. It came without the promised salad. I feel the Birdcage is more about stacking the bistro full with patrons at the expense of serving a meal worth it’s salt. I’m in town for 4 nights...won’t be back. I did ask for the manager before we left to let them know. I spoke to the staff member identified as the most senior on duty ....that’s who provided me with “sorry”. I’m sorry too that I chose the Birdcage. Is Qld really Good to Go? Perhaps, but not the Birdcage.

Post Script Kudos to Gavin, the Manager of the Birdcage. He called me today to offer his sincere apology for our experience. We appreciate his effort and will pop back to the Birdcage ..... everyone deserves...

Honestly, Longreach as a whole has been a complete let down. Me and the family had stopped at the Longreach RSL and had a terrible experience on our first passthrough. So we decided on our way back through that we would stop at the Bird Cage Hotel and try their meals. Well this meal was even worse then the first, I just wanted a bloody parmy and the wife wanted a juicy steak, the kids werent hungry. My parmy was the size of a chicken wing and chazzas steak was the dryest piece of meat imaginable. The service however was a step up as I was greeted by one of the beautiful girls behind the bar which was nice unlike the greeting given by Hamish Hart at the other RSL. I will never be returning to Longreach for as long as I am on this earth, the town has some of the worst food and drinking venues imaginable.

An excellent place for lunch or dinner if you're staying in Longreach. Food was great and very well priced. And served promptly. We were staying 4 days in Longreach and had intended to go somewhere different each day to eat. But we finished up going there every day instead. Even though we were staying a little out of town, Gavin (who I believe runs the place) had no hesitation in collecting us from our motel each and every time we wanted to go there for a meal, and then dropping us back at our motel when we wanted to return. They say it's a courtesy bus but when you're the only ones travelling, it's more like your own personalised chauffeur! And all done so promptly as well - no waiting.
