味觉小厨 Golden Sampan — Restaurant in Melbourne

First time ordering from here via Menulog. Very disappointed in the service. We placed the order at 18.20hrs, requesting delivery 1.5hrs later at 19.45hrs. At 20.00hrs, no delivery or update from Menulog. We called the restaurant and was told the driver was leaving with the order straight away. At 20.20hrs we received a message from Menulog saying the order was on it’s way! It arrived after 20.30hrs. And to further our disappointment, the food was barely warm and we had to reheat it. The menu requires updating with a more accurate description of dishes - the honey chicken was chicken pieces in batter which is not what we expected and would not have ordered this if we had known. The half duck was predominantly bone/fat. We ordered from this restaurant based on the positive reviews, however we certainly will not be ordering...

We have been buying takeaway from this establishment for around 2 years. Being a family of 2 coeliacs, greatly reduces our options for Chinese takeaway, luckily for us, Golden Sampan is the best in the area, GF or not. Well worth the drive down the freeway from Hoppers Crossing and conveniently located on the freeway exit in the main street. The lovely lady usually greets us with "oh gluten free" which is surprisingly assuring, knowing she remembers us and our usual order. Side note, their beef and black bean is divine and always contains loads of delicious, tender beef....

A hidden gem at Laverton. I was very pleasantly surprised to have found a place that does real chinese take-away with a capital "T". Food is cooked very well. The stir-fried vegetables still retaining it's vibrant colour and crispness. Salt and pepper chicken ribs really delicious and prawn crackers are on the house if you eat-in. The lady at the counter was very friendly and accommodating... Service was very good despite being a take-away shop. They also do local deliveries for a small $5 fee... I definitely took a take-away menu on my way out for future food...
