A minor place is a cute little almost-hidden-away treasure on Albion street closer to the McDonald’s end than the Sydney road end. It’s a weather board house with no huge signage so it can be easy to miss (despite the throngs of people that head here.)
The cafe seats about 30-40 people inside and about the same outside. There are heaters and under cover seating round the side while there is smaller table seating in front as well as perhaps about 5 outside bar seats.
Ordering inside can get a little cramped as they’ve definitely used all their floor space to seat people.
The food at A Minor Place is amazing. Well made, delicious, balanced dishes and extremely well presented. The coffee is equally as amazing. The blend is strong yet not over powering with smooth tastes. And almost always the coffee seems well prepared regardless of who makes it.
My only complaint is sometimes the wait staff seem.... disinterested? Not rude per se but certainly not chirpy/happy/easy to deal with. They almost appear condescending. However, they’re polite and “nice”.
If you could get some smiles out of all the wait staff instead of just one or two A Minor Place is easily a five star...
Read moreI have been a fan of a minor place for 5 years. However I just had a awful experience and will be hesitant to come back again. I arrived at 11.50 we were sat at the table and ordered at around 12.10. We were told it would be a 30 minute wait. At around 12.45 I was told that part of my order was now unavailable (waffle fries). I was asked if I wanted to get another side however it would cost me over $5. A large table who had arrived after us got their food before us and got waffle fries. After 50 minutes of waiting we asked how our food was coming along and the waitress told us she would check and did not come back. Our food eventually arrived after waiting for over 1 hour. While it was delicious it was not worth the 1 hour wait. Or the 11$ surcharge thanks to it being a public holiday. I hate complaining but this was just not okay. I am short of money thanks to the recent lockdown so spending money and having an experience like this is incredibly...
Read moreA cool space. A feel and layout to the cafe that nicely matches the neighbourhood location. Variety in the space, with benches, tables and chairs, bench seats with cushions, and outdoor tables. An example of the attention taken to the space is a huge square table with bench seats that supports large green pot plant to potential offer relatively private seating to multiple groups. There’s also a cool little hole in the wall for footpath takeaway service. The menu made deciding on food a difficult decision. But cauliflower and poached eggs lured me into the Turkish breakfast. A regretful choice unfortunately. A pretty and colourful presentation but only 4 bits of little cauliflower to accompany a very buttery sauce. The bread was good and pomegranate seeds were a nice touch but this wasn’t really enough to overcome the oiliness and the bowl of runny textures. I found myself really eyeing the quinoa, pumpkin and...
