We decided to visit after reading reviews, but unfortunately, our experience didn’t live up to expectations. It feels like some of the reviews might be promotional, as the food didn't justify the price.
We tried the Kashmiri rice, which tasted more like sugar water with boiled basmati rice and a few nuts. It lacked the traditional spice flavors and didn’t resemble authentic Kashmiri rice pulao — it was essentially just sweet rice with dry fruits.
Next, the chili chicken was mostly soup with very little chicken, drowned in a sweet sauce. While we appreciated the chef’s effort, we were disappointed with the overall taste. We really wanted to support her as she’s a kind and aspiring chef starting out in her new business, but the food needs more refinement.
We also ordered a thali. The sahi paneer was delicious, but the chicken curry didn’t resemble a traditional Indian curry at all and wasn’t to our taste. The portion of rice was small, and the meal didn’t fill us up — even the Kashmiri rice was served in a tiny bowl.
Overall, while the restaurant is new and the chef is trying, the flavors and portion sizes need improvement. We spent about $50, which felt like it didn’t provide value for money, especially for someone who is familiar with authentic Indian cuisine. It may not have suited my palate, but I think with some adjustments in taste and serving sizes, it could improve. The chef’s fresh preparation, kindness, and service were all appreciated, and we wish her the best with the restaurant.
This is just my honest feedback — hoping to see some improvements...
Read moreFrom the moment we walked in, the experience was outstanding. The warm welcome from the host immediately set the tone for the evening – friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about making every guest feel at home.
The food was exceptional – full of authentic Indian flavors, perfectly spiced, and beautifully presented. Every dish felt fresh and thoughtfully prepared, from the appetizers to the mains, and the desserts were the perfect too.
What really stood out was the service – attentive without being intrusive. The host and staff were knowledgeable about the menu, offered excellent recommendations, and ensured we were looked after throughout the meal.
Overall, this is one of the best Indian dining experiences we had for a birthday celebration. A perfect blend of delicious food, warm hospitality, and excellent service. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to enjoy Indian cuisine at its...
Read moreI couldn’t be more excited to write this review (which is not common for me). Just like the other 139 people who have rated this restaurant I give it 5 stars. They have done everything and more than you want. The food is the best, I’m not Indian, but did live there for a year and hands down this is the best place in Melbourne for Indian food. Add in the friendliness of the owner, the smiles on his young ladies who wait on the tables, and the effort and tastefulness of the actual restaurant decor and you have a winner. Highlights, both Fish curries, Chicken Tikka Masala and all the veggie dishes I’ve had. I would never order Fish in Indian restaurants, (I’m a snob) but I felt comfortable here, and I was so glad I did. Go enjoy Amrapali for some dine in or take out. You will not be disappointed. Actually you will be...
