Booked for a single night in a queen bed room and two days of onsite parking.
Was easy to find, but upon arrival found it to be very run down. Carpets worn, poor repairs on walls and on the roof. Chipped paint on the walls, plaster on walls unpainted etc. Guest lounge had a single microwave and a empty spot where a TV use to hang, with just the TV cables hanging out of the wall. Foyer was clean, however after taking the small and noisy elevator to our floor we got to our room only to find it smelt like cigarette. Carpets were stained. One of our bedside lamps were broken, and there was a crack in the mini fridge. Bathroom was small, and the toilet roll hadn't been replaced from the last person who stayed. Shower and toilet looked old and dirty aswell.
After complaining we were "upgraded" to the "deluxe" room, which was even smaller but it did have a king size bed instead of the queen we booked, which was nice. But the bedding felt old and worn. This room was dark, with a single window facing the car park. There was damage to the roof, where there must have been a massive hole, and instead of repairing it they covered it with a piece of ply wood. However a corner of the wood was hanging because some of the screws came loose.
The exhaust fan in the shower didn't work, and the shower was like a pressure hose. Literally the water was hitting the wall behind me before it touched the ground.
Was very noisy as the bathroom window couldn't be closed so you could here all the people coming out of the clubs and bars close to the area all night. On top of that, the noise from trams made it hard to sleep.
Lastly I'm very annoyed that we were not allowed to use the two days of car parking we paid for. It was $25 a day to use the inside parking at the hotel. The first day we arrived at 3pm (our check in time) and were charged $25. Then we were charged another $25 the next day, only to be told we had to move our car onto the street before 12pm. It's unethical to charge for daily parking to only tell your guests they can't use the parking anymore. This was a pain as we had planned to go out for the day and didn't think we would have come back just to move the car out to the street before 12pm.
Pros: was walking distance from the esplanade, restaurants, cafes and lunar park.
I wouldn't go stay here again, and unless you have really low standards I'd avoid...
Read moreMy son and I stayed at the Cosmopolitan for 5 nights in early November.
The accommodation was fine, if pretty basic for the price. The family room we were was very spacious, which was great for letting the little guy crawl around and the staff were very friendly and accommodating.
The rooms are very sparsely kitted out - from memory ours had a kettle, some tea/coffee, a couple of teaspoons, a small amount of milk and some water glasses. I was able to borrow a plate, a knife and a fork from reception - if only I had asked earlier!
The shower in our room fluctuated from extremely cold to horribly hot, which would be unpleasant for an adult, but made bathing a baby pretty difficult/dangerous. I mentioned this to reception staff, so hopefully it's getting fixed.
My disappointment really came after I checked out. I accidentally left a nice dress and a denim jacket hanging in the wardrobe - I didn't realise until I had flown back to NZ. Having paid a chunk of money to stay there for several nights, I assumed it would be no problem for the hotel to post the garments to me, but when I called them, they told me that nothing had been found in the wardrobe.
We had about four conversations over the course of a week and each time I was told the front desk checked with housekeeping and that nothing had been found.
The clothes were hanging there when I left, so someone, at some point, must have moved them. It may have been accidental or it may have been deliberate, but either way, I'm disappointed.
There has been no apology or compensation from the hotel, instead they have doubled-down, saying: "The hotel has a zero-tolerance policy regarding proven employee theft, so rest assured that it is very unlikely for them to take any items left by the guest."
If this was employee theft, I'm sure I won't be the only one to...
Read moreStayed at this hotel one night and wish that I didn’t!
After checking out of the hotel I later realised that I left my Apple charger plugged in next to the bed so called the hotel for them to keep aside and I would collect. The receptionist then proceeded to tell me that nothing was found in the room by the housekeeper. This frustrated me considerably as this now was a matter of, the rooms are not cleaned properly or the housekeeper decided to keep it! After communicating my frustration, I was then told to contact the manager by email to tell them the problem. I was also told that they had several other Apple charges that had been left by other guests that I could come collect. Which was strange as when I asked what the normal procedure was when a guest left an item in the room they told me that they contact them…..
So the following day, I drove over an hour to collect an Apple iPhone charger to only be presented with a dirty charger that was not Apple IPhone….. very disappointing and not good enough!
The hotel housekeeping staff are either pocketing guest items or are not throughly cleaning the rooms (Yuck!).
I would definitely suggest staying elsewhere. I paid $220 for the room, however I have now paid $376 for one night stay in a dingy room and a Sunday wasted by travel and having to purchase a new charger anyway.
However, if you don’t mind not knowing if the room you stay in is thoroughly cleaned or if you may have your items stollen. Go for it!
On a side note, if the hotel is willing to provide a solution. I’m happy to remove ‘every’...
