We were really early for our dinner date nearby and ducked into this corner pub for a quick snifter. The public bar was the only part of the pub that was open. Imminent renovation I’d guess given the pub’s huge and in a prime corner position. One riesling, one shiraz was the plan. Complex stuff. Who wants to be a millionaire was on the bar TV. The world’s most beautiful woman (WMBW) is a Chatty Cathy and she started to chat at length to the barman and regulars about her less than glittering game show career. One show, no cash or consumer durables. It made for good conversation especially as a pleasant nearby fellow barfly had bombed too. The barman was a lovely bloke and good enough to offer the WMBW a free wine as it’s her birthday tomorrow. Two wines instead of one made for a lovely start to our dinner with our friends. The Ascot Vale Hotel reminded us of a friendly country pub. Nice people. We’d come back any time.

Tap beers were the highlight, flavours of each beer were distinct and smooth drinking. Nothing wrong with service, but might have been a little too casual and lacked warmth. Building is well refurbished and maintained. Outdoor seating was as pretty but some heating would be nice when temperature drops in the evening. Went there for steak night, salad and fries were above average, sauces were packed with flavour and delicious. Steak themselves, doness was precise. However heat might have been too high, some parts of the edges were very burnt, black and bitter. Charged full price for beers during happy hour, I wonder if it's because discount was not available outside bar area.

Seriously been coming here for a bit as our new “local” lately but last night was just meh! Paying $115 for 2 Porterhouse steaks (which were cooked perfectly) BUT it’s the sides that get me at $13 EACH for greens and mash let me tell you these were off the mark and if I’m paying this fir each these better be bloody good but they weren’t , veg were over cooked and mush no crunch at at and the mash didn’t have enough butter, cream and flavour so paying this crazy amount for each side they need to hit the mark! Huge fail. And as for the service what a joke, where were they? Won’t be back in a hurry for paying this price to get what we got!

Had an absolutely brilliant meal here! The food was top-notch — generous portions, full of flavour, and perfectly cooked. I had the pasta linguine, and it was one of the best I’ve had in ages. The sides were fresh and well seasoned, and the desserts were just as impressive. The service was spot on — friendly, attentive, and welcoming without being overbearing. You can tell the team really care about what they do. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed, perfect for a casual meal or a weekend catch-up with friends. Highly recommend this place if you’re after great pub food and proper hospitality. I’ll definitely be back. Sofie and Adam are the best humans I have ever come across so absolutely amazing.
