Came in as an ubereats driver and been asked by the waitress in counter to get out and go all the way from back ally to pickup the order from the back door, while the kitchen is literally just 2 step away from the counter.
It’s a raining night and the back ally was dark and slippery, I walked carefully but still stepped in water and almost fell down. So I friendly suggested the owner that if the deliver guy has already came in, it would be easier just passing the foods from the counter.
Then a girl interrupted “because of covid, we requested you to meet in back door.”
So I asked her why those white customers who ordered takeaways could come in and pickup from the front counter without any issue?
She simply ended the conversation with “if you don’t want to come to the backyard, just don’t pickup the order from us”
Her unprofessional and reckless behavior as a hospitality person was just shocking and I was totally speechless. And the owner urged me to start the delivery so the foods won’t get cold.
It’s interesting that the time I spent to walk all the way to the back yard is definitely more than the time to let me finish my suggestion. And it also worried me that the request and behavior from this restaurant is a mistreatment based on the race as I am Asian and majority of the delivery people are Asian/Indian. I love Mexican foods and was reading their menus when waited for other customers, as I was thinking about visit here after lockdown etc. But definitely NOT after the disappointing experience I had during the short visit.
Pretty sure the business doesn’t care about losing one customer as well as his friends who would hear this story, but thinking it is necessary to let people aware as this is not someone who’s inside the hospitality industry.

You can order for pick-up or delivery, or dine-in like I chose to. Their options consist mainly of burritos, burrito bowls, nachos and other sides (no tacos unfortunately). They also have vegan/vegetarian options if that’s what you’re more interested in.
I opted for the Beef Burrito Bowl, the staff said their beef was the most popular choice. It consisted of rice, cheese, bean mix and pulled beef topped with guacamole, sour cream, chipotle mayo and Pico Di Gallo with a side of corn chips. There was a generous amount of beef, it was tender and tasty but needed a pinch more salty as it became monotonous even with the added toppings. The rice was quite flavourless and bland, there also wasn’t enough of it, I found myself was searching for it because it seemed like mostly meat. The toppings were plentiful and there was no extra charge for any guacamole or sour cream which was a nice change. The tortilla chips on the side weren’t Doritos quality, they were nice and salty and had a denser crunch to them like you’d get from traditional tortilla chips. They weren’t the best quality but they did the job.
Overall it was a great serving size, they are very generous and I think it was great for the price ($18). However some improvements are needed in flavour, it became too bland after a while. Their food has great potential to be amazing and it’s a good option for the area, but I feel...
Read morePopped into Burrito Bae last night and was pleasantly surprised with my overall experience.
Firstly, it’s extremely refreshing to find halal Mexican food in Melbourne, so that’s the first big win. Secondly, the young girl working greeted me with such lovely hospitality and was extremely patient as I contemplated what to order. She assisted me in describing portion sizes and guiding me towards what to order. Wish I had caught her name, but she was the best!
With those two things in mind it’s difficult for my rating to not reflect how much I recommend this place. However, once the food came out I was presented with an extremely generous portion of Grilled Chicken Nachos.
The service was quick and the nachos were clearly made fresh to order. Grilled chicken was delicious and juicy, with such ample guacamole and sour cream on top so not a single chip went without toppings.
I’m extremely pleased with my experience at Burrito Bae - I’ll most likely be returning to try some more menu items and bring along some friends to help with the indulgent portions.
Given that they’re named Burrito Bae I cannot fault them too much, but I would love to see an addition of tacos to the menu!
Overall, delicious generous servings, wonderful service and chill ambiance....
