Revised review. Received a very positive response from BB with a commitment to investigate + work on improving processes + experience. A complimentary replacement meal was provided to help correct things. I was blown away by the different experience + better cooked food when eating in store.
Manager Richie was amazing, warm, hospitable and explained a few things. Calamari was seared with a healthy golden brown and flavour. Rice was served warm with a generous portion of Greek salad. Prawns were good too. Fish was crispier. Riviera flavoured sparkling sodas were surprisingly refreshing, with nice flavours without being overly sweet.
The fried pineapple fritters were also surprisingly a delightful ending to the satisfying meal. Juicy on the inside, a thin deep fried batter, crispy putter smothered in sugar. Service was impeccable and I feel welcomed to return. The chips were still not the crispiest, but that can be fixed with some cooking tweaks to suit changed chip suppliers. No dark looking ones nor floating brown bits this time round.
Recommdation is to eat in store. Bumping my review from an overall 2 stars up to 5 stars. Food, service and atmosphere rocketted up the in store experience. Lesson learned, it may take a bit of effort to head in-store to eat but with these fish and chips, they taste 10 times better fresh and hot. Food sitting in containers to take them home even if it is a short journey will affect your fish and chips in a bad way.
Atmosphere was roomy, spacious and relaxed. Felt like we were sitting in whales with the bones of the fish in the decor. Excellent customer service and attentiveness in checking in on us to confirm we had what we needed and clearing plates. New photos posted. Previous review: I used to eat here at Hunky Dory and loved it. Everything was cooked so well.
I thought I'd try the new company out but I was left sad and unfulfilled on my takeaway meal. Had my usual type order of the Mediterranean grilled seafood pack. Picked it up at half an hour as requested. The deep fried fish and chips were soggy and chips floppy. The chips were intensely yellow, had a higher number of grey looking ones than I would expect, and some brown things (probably floaty bits from old oil). Fish batter was flat, and not light and crunchy.
Portion size was small. Calamari cut so thinly they they couldn't grill it longer leaving a nice golden brown that I'm used to from other shops.
Rice was ok. Slaw was bland, mostly cabbage and could hardly taste any dressing.
The only nice part was getting tartare sauce and small lemon slices with the fried fish.
Just a little gobsmacked, but hoping for everyone that this was just an off day. Or they had cooked the food too early and it was sitting there cooling down and getting soggy at the half hour mark. It was not value for money and did not hit the mark from a standard fish and chip shop.

First impression was great.. nice n clean place and they have heaps of space.. great for kids n big groups.. outdoor seating for warmer months..lol
Great customer service, the guy at the counter waz super friendly also gave my little one a toy to play with.
So we tried basic fish n cips n salt n pepper calamari. It was okay.. fish was batter fried n crispy but had a stale oil aftertaste and calamari was nice n soft.. well seasoned but similar aftertaste. Maybe they kept reusing oil instead of chucking it.
However most of the people were having grilled version on both of our dishes.. so Hunky Dory i will give u another chance and try ur grilled range.
Forgot yo mention before i found tartre sauce a bit weird and the guy behind service counter changed it for a spicer sauce without any arguments.. much appreciated mate!

I was going to order a pack of calamari rings via phone however I only had cash. And it is just a $10 meal. I told the staff that I would be arrived within 10 mins and I promised I will pick it up. But they kept saying it was the policy that I had to pay online by giving them all details of my bank account???? Can you believe this?? Who can ensure my card security???
When I complained to the store manager, he said although it was $10, he had to have it first because there were some customers who did not pick up their food. But I mentioned I was the old customer and it was not my first time. The manager still cannot believe me. Excuse me??WHERE IS THE TRUST??????
When I asked you might lose your customer since you concerned too much about that $10.
This was his answer: He had to see that $10 was in his pocket first. If I left, he won’t care.
