My husband and I love Greek food and as heâs going away for three weeks, thought we could go here for an early dinner, wish we hadnât. We ordered prawns, the chili mushrooms, and some olives to start with, the prawns were overcooked some of them still had their veins in And they were tasteless, The olives had been sitting in a vinegarettte That was too overpowering, the chili mushrooms were lovely. For Main we shared The lamb shoulder, it was lovely and tender, served over a bed of rissoni But was bland ,hadnât been marinated And the Rissoni was too overpowering for such a bland piece of meat. we were looking forward to dessert and coffee, but the dessert had been brought in and were in no way Greek. Until the waiter tried to undermine our reaction to the food, the service had been good. The restaurant itself reminded me of a cafeteria with low lighting. I should have read the menu online, if I had seen chips with tomato sauce, this wouldâve told me everything. Needless to say, we will not go back and will not be Recommending this restaurant. My only regret is that I didnât...
Read moreWe had a nice dining experience at Bistro 1 in Mornington. While this isnât your traditional Greek taverna, what they serve is a smart, Australianised take on Greek cuisine that really hits the mark for local tastes.
The ingredients were fresh and top-quality across the board. The lamb was perfectly cooked, rich in flavour, and paired beautifully with a hearty grain base. The grilled saganaki and charred octopus were crowd-pleasersâtender, well-seasoned, and finished with lemon and herbs in just the right balance.
The Greek salad was vibrant, packed with crisp veggies and generous slabs of feta. Even the beer felt rightâcold, clean, and the perfect counter to the richness of the mains.
But what really stood out was the serviceâwarm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The staff clearly care about the experience theyâre creating, and it shows.
If you're chasing traditional Greek this is definitely not the one for you but if youâre after a flavourful, and approachable version tailored for the Aussie palate -...
Read moreBistro One is a pleasant cafe/restaurant on the edge of the Mornington CBD. We ate well enough here for lunch by selecting some nice calamari as well as some lamb skewers with chips and salad. We also had a couple of excellent bloody Marys. This was pleasant enough in the nice light airy setting, but the thing that surprised us most was the difficulty in making a lunch choice. The menu is skewed towards breakfast options with lunch options a bit thin on the ground. The menu could therefore do with a little rebalancing, in our opinion. Such is life though. A final word about the service here. It was uniformly excellent from the young, enthusiastic and amiable servers. We must try breakfast here...
