Not worth your time. I had been looking forward to visiting this place for so long, but sadly, the experience was a major letdown. When we arrived, the restaurant was completely EMPTY. The waitress was about to seat us at a different table, but we politely requested the small square table near the window. She kindly accommodated us, and we sat down without any issues. After receiving our drinks, no one came to take our food order. My mum approached a male staff member (possibly the owner?) to ask if we should order at the counter or wait for table service. To our surprise, he rudely responded, "It is table service, but we told you that you were not allowed to sit there because there was a reservation." This left us completely baffled and confused: 1. We were seated at the table without hesitation when we asked. 2. There was no reservation sign or indication that the table was unavailable. The rudeness of his response completely soured the experience. As for the food, it was incredibly disappointing. My $20 scrambled chili eggs were overcooked, dry, and served with just one unbuttered piece of toast. It’s such a shame because the ambiance was lovely, but the poor service from the male staff and mediocre food made the visit a disappointment. I won’t be returning.

After a few years it is time to update this first review on it's reopening. The journey continues and it's fresh, smart and just all good. Great coffee. Great food. Selected wines. Lovely vibe in the cathedral that is the Dandenongs. Most recently I took a shine to the beef ribs dish. Very authentic Southern BBQ set. Brilliant long cooked meaty ribs in a Bourbon BBQ sauce, but the true delight is they went the extra yards to add a great Mac n Cheese, and a brilliant slaw. Just super good and very well priced. Do go :)) Just reopened (again). The current team have it right from the get go. Local gem icon now updated. Lovely fit out. Open fire. Forest location. Great coffee by Isaac. Real food from a professional kitchen. Try the soup. Unlike so many others a real base, not disguised by salt, and a generous serve. Curated Wines to have in or take out. We so missed this local getaway. Well, it's back and it's better. Highly commended.

Tourist stop eat in and takeaways.🥰 These are the types of reviews I enjoy, owners run establishment. It always amazes me how much more enjoyable eating place are if the owner enjoys being hands on. On arrival front of house two smiling very welcoming young ladies doing their jobs well and in the back ground is the owner running around making sure his well oiled machine is running at peak performance. This establishment is very popular with the local and can be very busy at times but never to much of a fuss to get great service. The eat in part of the business has a great open fire establishing a great atmosphere, they also have a very large collection of wines and fridges full of special produce lots from the local valley areas. There is a saying never judge a book buy it’s cover this is one of those examples plain on the outside extra special on the inside 😊👍

Awful experience. Unapologetic owner.

Context: Went on ANZAC day (understandably a busy day). There were two specials available at 12:30pm when we ordered - beef cheeks and lamb shanks. 3 reasons for the reivew:

After waiting 60 minutes for everyone's food, the lamb shank special had not arrived. We ask and they say it's on the way soon. Another 30 minutes - 90 minutes total - and we ask again. They say they printed out the docket but did not fulfill our order, so we have to re-order the lamb shanks. The waiter finally brings the "lamb shanks" - confirmed by the waiter - but it is the wrong dish.

After informing the staff of the wrong dish, the owner, visibly grumpy, comes and brings the whole specials menu chalkboard with the lamb shanks removed, saying "we took lamb shanks off the menu an hour ago". We ordered 90 minutes ago. And painted it as our fault the order went through when we weren't notified of the change, even after asking once for an update on our order.

NO apology from the owner.

Food was fine, waitress was kind and apologetic and the space was nice, but awful management that cannot manage expectations or take ownership of their mistakes....

My family and I attended here for breakfast this morning after my nephews wedding last night. We called in advance and made a booking Brett the owner was aware of the group booking and how many people. Other then us they didn’t no have many people in the cafe when we went in at 10.15am. After waiting for 1hr and 45min I got up to as the waitress what was wrong as food was coming out 2 or 3 plates at a time. only half of us got their food and my dad’s tostie took 1.5hrs to come to the table was a joke. There was a number of mistakes and the owners attitude was disgusting when only after 1.5hrs we went to ask what was wrong. The waitress was lovely and apologised after we approached her after waiting so long. All up we waited 2hrs for egg Benedict. Owning a cafe myself the owner needs to learn some customer service. If something was going wrong in the kitchen he should have come out and apologised or offered a coffee or drink. 2hrs for breakfast is a joke!!! Apart from the waitress the served us and apologised and was empathic the owner Brett was a total too. I would...
