Really nice cafe to grab some brunch when we visited Melbourne. We had the following: - Breakfast burger - Darling breakfast - French toast - Flat white - Babycino x 2 for the kids Staff were really friendly and it was great for us and the kids! Only con: We parked at the 1P parking just right before the cafe and had a nasty handwritten sign placed on our rental car windscreen. I thought it was targeted at us (either as tourists or Asians) but the Australian car behind had the same note as well. I spoke to the other driver and he was equally puzzled by the note as we were in a legal parking zone and did not exceed the 1hr time limit. My suspicion is that it might be by someone related to the ongoing construction next door? No concrete proof though. Hope the owners of Darling Cafe could perhaps a notice or have a camera outside to just monitor this. Spoiled an otherwise great cafe experience!

Interesting waffle combination but mediocre service. However, one of the more different cafes of all the Darling groups. FOOD: I ordered the ‘Peanut Butter Waffle’ and my friend ordered the ‘Organic Acai Bowl’. I think the peanut butter waffle should be renamed to the cheesecake waffle because it barely tasted like peanut butter. I’ll start with what I liked which was the waffle’s texture. The waffle’s texture was perfection, it was crispy but also a little chewy. It couldn’t be too soft or fluffy as it had to hold the mousse so I enjoyed that. The cheesecake mousse was pretty good too and it definitely tasted like the cream cheese of a cheesecake. Now, I’ll move on to what I didn’t particularly like. First of all, the seasonal berries is abit of a sham because it was purely strawberries. Also, I’d like to reiterate how there was a big lack of peanut butter flavour. I also thought the golden syrup was waaaay too sweet and ruined the entire taste of the waffle. I think their regular Darling maple syrup would have been just fine. SERVICE: Service was... below par. I don’t know if it’s coming on a weekend that caused the really bad service or it’s bad in general but truly it was one of the worst service I’ve ever got from a cafe. The staff were kinda rude, unattentive and fake..? I get that all servers aren’t constantly happy and working on a Sunday isn’t exactly a dream but it was kinda disappointing. Overall, Darling is known for their good food but not their great service and Darling Cafe definitely supports this. The food was not bad and as a Darling group fan, I wasn’t completely disappointed. I just hoped for a dish that lived up to its name and good service. Still worth a visit if you’re interested tho! ☺️

My friend and I decided to try out Darling Café. As we’ve both been to other venues, owned by the Darling Group, we knew this place won’t disappoint. We had booked a table and we were seated right at the corner — between two windows, which was the best table in the café as it was covered in sunlight. It was a rainy day and the place was warm and cozy. The staff are very lovely and the service is very good. Meals take less than ten minutes to arrive. Both our dishes were delicious and stunningly presented. Coffees were nice and strong. My friend also had a Watermelon & Mint juice, which she really enjoyed. We paid $90-ish for two breakfasts, four coffees, and the juice, which was on the higher side, but definitely worth it. Would definitely go back to try something else. They also have a selection of very well-priced cocktails and outdoor seating.

The Darling of Darling St, in the heart of South Yarra. Humble, warm and inviting. Their breakfast menu features Australian classics with a fun, creative twist, to get those taste buds tingling. An all day lunch menu draws upon a South East Asian fusion influence, which will have you ready to wok n roll into your day! @darling cafe use quality, locally-sourced ingredients alongside specialty coffee (my local favourite) and an extensive range of pastries, smoothies, juices and alcoholic beverages. What we ate: Everything Veggie Scrambled eggs, avocado, sautéd greens, baby mushrooms, roast tomato, halloumi, toast + and potato rosti Chilli Scrambled Eggs: Roasted pumpkin, spinach, sesame seeds, multigrain + Mushrooms roast tomato Sticky Date Pancakes Malted crumble, salted caramel ice cream, palm sugar caramel, seasonal fruits

Not sure what's happened here, whether it's been a change in owner, management or perhaps barrista. But it's definitely been a change for the worse. Worked in SY for the past 12 years. My office is 300 mtrs away. I must walk past at least 3 closer cafes. The past few months the coffee has been bitter, Smokey and generally bad, the service extremely lacking and worse than typical for the area in terms of entitlement mentality and generally just looking like they were too good to be there and had somewhere better to be (mind you this was at 10am on a Thursday!). The atmosphere was underwhelming with many pompous looking try hards attempting to look important. Actually when you think about it, the food and service actually their customers. Won't be coming back her anytime soon or bring my staff here for our weekly meetings

I've eaten here before, the food is not bad but nothing to rave about, and the staff tend to leave you alone which I like. I was able to order from them via Deliveroo, during the Christmas period. Food usually arrives cold so they could improve on their packaging. Their fresh juice has reduced in size (it now comes in the smallest cup instead of a big one). Its basic breakfast food which they generally cant go wrong with. They usually dump everything into a takeaway box no care for presentation. They could do with improving on the suggestions above. P.S I think they forgot the holladaise sauce... Sigh. They usually forget something so I do always feel abit jibbed ordering from this place. Yummy but also mediocre at the same time.
