I recently stayed at Oaks Melbourne South Yarra and was deeply disappointed by the state of my suite. The level of cleanliness was simply unacceptable. I found: Filthy cutlery: It was clear the cutlery hadn't been washed at all. Dirty dishes: The dishwasher was full of dirty dishes from a previous guest. Faulty iron: The iron leaked profusely, leaving my clothes soaking wet. Broken deadlock: The deadlock on the door was broken, raising security concerns.
In addition to these issues, the overall cleanliness of the room was appalling: Filthy washing machine: The area around the washing machine was absolutely filthy. Rubbish on the dryer: On top of the dryer, I found rubbish, including discarded medication. Rubbish under the couch: There was even more rubbish hidden beneath the couch cushions.
To make matters worse, my co-workers who were also staying at the property reported similar cleanliness issues. One colleague even found food splatter, specifically curry, inside the microwave! The entire room smelled of curry, and she was forced to clean it herself.
Furthermore, both the room and hallways had a pervasive odor of wet dog, poorly masked by a cheap air freshener. The proximity to the train line also made for a noisy and disruptive stay.
To top it all off, I reported these issues to reception at 7:30 am with photographic evidence. Upon returning to my room at 9:30 pm, nothing had been done. Over 14 hours had passed, and the issues remained unresolved. This demonstrates a complete lack of care and attention to guest well-being and basic hygiene standards.
I would strongly advise potential guests to reconsider staying at this property until management addresses these...

Large rooms mostly overlooking the train station. Quite clean and well equipped. However the noise level is okay with closed windows only as trains are constantly honking on station entry/exit.
Biggest issue was wifi - I could not get reliable and fast internet working in my room, despite talking to the reception desk on multiple occasions. Possibly other rooms are closer to the router, but the best I got was 1-1.5 Mbit/s, which isn't even enough for a youtube video on lowest resolution and certainly not enough for work. Also the 'top speed' was only in the kitchen area (closer to the hallway) but not in the living area where I had frequent drop outs.
'Gym access' turned out the be a number of access cards to a neighbouring gym that were all in use by long-term guests. I was unable to get a card on two occasions; however I have to say staff made an effort to retrieve a card for me and even called me up the next day when something became available. On another note I would expect difficulties for early morning (
Read moreRoom was nice and tidy. No complaints there. Balcony room offers "city views" so states the website. Let's just say don't have high expectations. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Off site parking can be far if none of the 5 free parks out the front of the hotel are available. The closest public car park is about 500m down the road which has restricted entry and exit times between 7pm and 7am. If these times don't fit then expect to find a public car park further away. Major downside was the noise from the train station situated across the street from the hotel. The trains run until late at night till early in the morning. I personally can ignore most noises while sleeping so didn't find it that bad but occasional was woken, my partner on the other hand had a difficult time trying to sleep with the noise. They say they also offer Foxtel. While I was there this wasn't an option to view as there is a high rise building being built next to them which has somehow interfered and blocked their signal. I would like to know how long this Foxtel would stay receiving no signal before they actually organise for this issue...
