⭐️9/10 💰 $$$ ✨ PRO TIP: 5% CASH DISCOUNT (We spent around $1000 for 7 people so after the cash discount it came down to around $150 per person which is quite reasonable)

Featured dishes 🍣🥩🍤🍚🍲 Assorted Sashimi: $62 (x2) - they put 2 servings in one plate so it looks huge Wagyu Yukke: $28 Wagyu Tataki: $33 School Prawns: $19 Tebasaki Karaage: $24 Wagyu Steak Don: $55 Foie Gras Bibambap: $47 Kobe A5 & Australian M9 Set: $289 A5 + M9 Shabu Shabu Set: $295

Celebrated my birthday with my family at Wagyu Ya a few weeks ago 🥰 Every time we go Wagyu Ya or Niku Ou we usually order the same dishes, such as the Wagyu Yukke, Wagyu Tataki, Sashimi, School Prawns, Tebasaki Karaage (I know this seems shocking, but these deep-fried chicken wings are SO GOO!!!! I made fun of my friend one time for ordering them and now I must order them every time I go) Another must order is the Foie Gras Bibambap which is so fatty and so good, but we also tried the Wagyu Steak Don and it was really good and I feel like it’s better value since you get a generous portion of perfectly cooked Wagyu Steak.

Okay onto the mains, instead of only having Yakiniku BBQ sets we wanted some variety, so we ordered both the A5+M9 BBQ Set and Shabu Shabu Set. We opted for Sukiyaki for the broth for our hotpot set and the set comes with veggies, such as tofu, mushrooms, cabbage and udon noodles. We have a tradition for our birthday that we must eat “birthday noodles” 🍜 as it represents long life and longevity! It was a good idea ordering both the BBQ and Hotpot set since we had a bigger group, so we could try a bit of everything and I feel like my parents like the soupy noodle dishes over just eating meat.

The only negative I have from the night was that the service was quite slow, once they had brought our the plates of meat, we waited almost 20 minutes for them to cook for us… but the waiter did apologise to us as they were unexpectedly busy for a Monday night and he was even shocked of how busy they were. Apart from that we still had a great night celebrating...

This place is terrible, the worst service I have experienced, and will never come again. Every waiter was lying to us including the manager.

We have reserved for the first round, and when I was ordering the food, the Japanese waitress cannot understand or speak English, therefore, I have to finger point the food to order -- it's ok.

Then when I was ordering the A5/M9 wagyu beef, she told me that all the M7+ wagyu were sold out -- understandable, since it was Sunday night.

While we were waiting for our beef, the table beside us ordered an M9 wagyu plate. I was confused and ask another waiter, didn't the Japanese waitress told me there was no M7+ left? The waiter told me: That was the last one. -- Confused, my boyfriend asked me if they don't have M7+ wagyu in the first round, what could they sell for the second and third round?

After a while, another table ordered an M8 wagyu, and then my boyfriend stepped out the restaurant, pretend a customer to call the restaurant and ask if they have a table available that night, and they said yes. Then my boyfriend asked: "Do you have M7+ wagyu left? Since we really want to have some good quality beef." The manager said: "plenty of them".

Then my bf walked in asked the manager why they don't serve M7+ wagyu to us, the manager first said: "we don't have any left". And then my bf said: "I just called you to reserve a table, and you said you have plenty". The manager realised something went wrong, and apologised to us, and ask if we still want to order M8/M9 wagyu. But we lost our appetite.

Disgusting, I still don't understand why they all lying to us, and don't want to serve a plate of wagyu???

I believe that the Japanese waitress may make a mistake in the first place, but I don't understand why they lied to us instead of explaining and fixing the mistake.

The waiters and the manager don't have a good manner, I will...

So my partner decided to take me to this restaurant for my birthday dinner........ Honestly....

booking for 8.30pm, I got stuck at work and Monash traffic home into 1 lane made it that we had to rush (finish at 5pm, dinner at 8.30). I do the right thing and call up and say I will be 15 minutes late by the time I get there. No problems.

Arrive to the restaurant at 8.39pm, Check in at 8.40pm "no staff member checked any check ins and vaccination certificates btw'

The lady at the front counter couldn't even find our booking, Booking Ref: 21640317 - Birthday Booking

Get told that our table wasn't ready yet as the people were still eating.

Option 1: Leave Option 2: Wait until its available - get told 15 minutes.

We thought we would do the right thing and be patient so we get seated at a table downstairs while we wait, no water or anything was asked by the staff members, just basically dumped there, imagine that, not 1 staff member even came up to us until a lady that was seating by herself said something to one of the male staff members.

8.57pm the customers are downstairs paying and we get notified, 9.09pm someone comes up to us and tells us that the table is now ready. imagine that, I walked in 30 minutes prior

9.30pm out comes the food (to be cooked) with BASIC SERVICE.

$424 later for most likely the worst service my partner and I have ever received, especially at a highly rated steak "restaurant", genuinely have better service from McDonalds.

As I said, I would've got in contact directly, but your email on your website bounces back.

Not 1 Staff Member said sorry or asked if we needed anything, there is so much more.

I hope no one gets treated like this, this is what happens when you're Lebanese and your partner is Anglo Indian - Brown, thank you to this great experience and a birthday to remember for the...

You proved the sashimi without wasabi (especially in a Japanese restaurant not as I expected)makes me realize: how confident you are about the ingredients. You don’t even need additional seasonings to mask strange fishy smells that kingfish or scallops could have. Instead, let the ingredients provide their own deliciousness👍 The sourness in the source magnified the umami of the scallop. There is no extra source in it with small shiso leaves in it, not too sure, it have a special aroma, really pare will with the scallops. The kingfish has a different source. The softness of the fish contrasts well with the crunchy things on top. The hot spring egg looks inconspicuous, but in my opinion, it elevates the dish. When i mixing the eggs with the rice. The egg perfectly emulsified and fused the relatively independent sauce, the fat exuded from Wagyu beef and the rice into a new, rich, smooth, and enveloping compound sauce. Hot spring egg is like a superb band conductor, not necessarily the best performer, but can make the performance of the whole orchestra harmonious, smooth and infectious. You can't really taste it out precisely but this "conductor" perfectly hides himself and achieves the glory of the whole band. This fried browned and crispy garlic slice is simply the finishing touch to this bowl of rice. it is an "aroma coordinate" that anchors all other flavors with a rich burnt aroma that prevents sweet and salty notes from being too wandering. This burnt aroma is a match with the rich aroma of Wagyu beef. The yuzu wine and plam wire are both pair will with the don. The sourness cut the fat and become a compound taste.

We were looking forward to dining here for Valentine’s Day, but unfortunately it was an extremely disappointing experience. Upon arrival, we had to wait outside in the cold and rain for 15 minutes despite having a reservation, which wasn’t an ideal start. Once seated, we noticed that the downstairs dining area was quite different from what we had seen online—much more cramped and lacking in atmosphere. It was only later that we realised the upstairs section, which seemed to offer a nicer setting, appeared to be reserved for those who chose the BBQ sets. This wasn’t made clear on the website, and had we known we’d be seated in an area that looks like a completely different restaurant, we would have dined elsewhere for the evening. Service was quite slow, particularly with drinks. Our wines didn’t arrive until we were nearly finished with our meal, which was disappointing. As for the food, the wagyu was beautifully tender, but overall, the dishes didn’t feel like they justified the high price. One thing we wish had been communicated better was the charge for still water for the table. We were surprised to see a $12 charge on our bill as we hadn’t been informed of this in advance and no opportunity to decline this. While we completely understand that Valentine’s Day can be a particularly busy evening, we couldn’t help but notice other couples around us expressing similar concerns. I truly appreciate the effort that goes into running a restaurant on such an occasion, but based on our experience, we won’t be recommending this place or returning; particularly when there are so many other amazing restaurants in Melbourne.
