We came here about 10 months ago and it was great (food and service amaozing), but unfortunately tonight was disappointing. Hubby and I both ordered a rump, cooked rare, chips and a side of prawn skewer, broccolini and onions. Husband's steak was beautiful and he enjoyed it. Mine however was chewy and flavourless. I didn't even get through half before offering to to husband who would usually devour it. Even he wouldn't eat it as he didn't enjoy it. I did mention it to wait staff, but first i was told thay it was how i ordered it (rare) until i remonded here that husband and i ordered it the same way, so was then told that some cows are relaxed and some are a bit tougher (or something?). She offered me a dessert, but I'm not a sweets person, so that was that and they didn't seem too bothered. Chips had no seasoning (like at all!) so were not enjoyable. Broccolini and Prawns were nice, which was good as this became my dinner. I was really looking forward to eating here, after my last great experience, but will now need to source out another...
Read moreJust in town for one night. I really wanted to have a decent meal after a very early start to the day flying in from Sydney backed up with a full day of meetings. Decided to get a steak from here as its was a very short walk from where i was staying in South Yarra.
The service here is immpecable and the food was great too! i ordere the T-bone with a side of the brocollini. i was not disapointed with the food, but i have to say what they serve it on doesnt help you with eating it. the 500g steak was larege and they serve it on a very small iron skillet. it makes carving it up rather challenging. i get it, they want to keep the steak warm but in all honesty if you're not getting stuck into it as soon as you are served, maybe you should have gone somewhere else.
in anycase it was tasty, they have a great selection of wine, just wished they had a better beer menu.
just a friendly reminder to book before you go, and yes you can book last minute. I did, like a 2 minutes before...
Read moreWow... To start we had the prawn skewers for entrée, the taste was amazing, it was accompanied with monkey gland sauce, we were simply blown away. We both had the eye fillet with mushroom sauce and chips as well as the baked veggies for main with matching wine. The steak was insanely good and that mushroom sauce was rich but went soo well with the steak and chips. The serving size is impressive, they give you a lot of sauce, Manu Feildel would be in a happy place. We also had the onion rings. We ate soo much but just wanted to keep eating this delicious food. As for the restaurant itself, the ambiance to me speaks warm and inviting. The staff are knowledgeable and very kind and ensure that you always have enough water and drinks throughout your dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant, to me it's my alternative to Rockpool...
