Egons Cake Shop & Bakery — Restaurant in Melbourne

I've been coming to Egons for all my baked goods. Their almond croissants are the best and all their Pies and cakes are delicious. I decided to order a custom birthday cake for my daughter's birthday and needed something that would suit both kids and parents, as well as feed 50+ guests. We ended up deciding to order 1 large cake and a dozen cupcakes. We went instore to enquire and spoke to Gary who gave us recommendations on cake sizes. We also provided images of cake designs we liked and he made suggestions on what they could do to help make the cake look great. We later met up with Kerri on another day, who would be making the cake on the day we booked and she understood what we were after. The price was very reasonable and we went with a sponge cake with jam and cream.

The end product was amazing! The colour palette and design was exactly the same as the image we provided. The cake was soft and was delicious as always. Even the parents wanted to know where the cake came from and they were so surprised it came from the local bakery we all knew! The cupcakes were a hit with the kids and everyone loved the cake.

The look on my daughter's face when she saw her cake was priceless. It made her birthday that much more special.

Usually I love this place, it's my favourite bakery with quality pastries and that is why I am giving this bakery 3 stars. There was no issue with the baked goods. I absolutely enjoy the apple cakes from time to time but today, I was found to be upsettingly shocked. The lady serving me was quite rude to me as I enquired about certain pastry, which as a paying customer, I assumed to not be a problem. It was not busy and I was extremely polite, even purchasing the pastry as I would not let this lady ruin my visit. She was absolutely unwelcoming and could not care less about my question, giving me attitude. I would never recommend the lady serving me to ever work in hospitality again, not unless she learns to at the very minimum, pretend to be nicer. You do not need to love the customer but at least have some respect. My time and money can be spent elsewhere as the service was appalling with the most lacking and careless customer service. Usually I have a somewhat decent experience when I go to have a baked treat but today, I will not forget the manner I was treated with- it was shocking.

Edit- I am seeing more reviews, and let me say the more mature staff desperately need to cheer up! Their attitude is not making me inclined to return. Who cares if it is local, I would rather go somewhere further if I am...

Egon's make the most beautiful and delicious baked goods!

A few months ago my husband and I picked up some treats to share with friends - the jelly slice, vanilla slice, and German pretzels were a hit!

More recently, Egon's created the cake for my baby shower. The vintage-style white choc mudcake in the shape of a heart was thoroughly enjoyed by all of my guests. Not only did it look incredible in photos but it tasted delicious!
