Fishtastic Fish and Chips — Restaurant in Melbourne

Fishtastic used to be so good, but the last few times we have been really disappointed. Gave it another go last night. Called the order in and my daughter drove down 10 mins later. They said they didn’t have the order and said we must have called someone else. Checked the number - no definitely them. My daughter went back in the shop to confirm it was the right number and the girl behind the counter rudely said “have you sorted it out yet?”. When my daughter advised it was the right number, the girl picked up an order on the bench in front of her and just said “oh here it is”. When we got the food home it was disgusting. The potato cakes were floppy and soaked in oil, the dim sims were rock hard and the corn jack was also soaked in oil but was not cooked on the inside! We ended up throwing it all out! We will definitely not be going back. So...

First time trying this place and definitely won’t be back. Firstly they forgot a piece of fish in the order. This should be checked before wrapping up! The chips had no salt on it and were over cooked. The fish that was included was greasy and the coating came off and the dim sims were hard and didn’t have nearly enough soy sauce. There was a long wait- this was mainly due to inexperienced staff. An example of this was a guy who came in while I was waiting, repeated his order 4 or 5 times, and the 2 young people at the counter kept trying to look for his order, even though it was VERY obvious he was just trying to order (the man repeated this many times)!! I found this place to be quite expensive also, which made this poor experience (including the missing fish)...

Have been coming here just about once a week for the last 10 years. Food has become a little inconsistent with the new owners, but is generally still very good, and is improving. After recently comparing, still find their burgers and schnitzel burgers to be the best in the area. Good menu and prices.

EDIT - 24/04/19 As of some time ago, the quality and consistency has returned. Upgraded from 4 to 5 stars.
