I recently had the pleasure of celebrating 12 years together with my Beautiful wife and we chose to treat ourselves to a lunch at Hapi Cafe and Restaurant in Dromana and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere was alive and bubbly, the service was prompt, professional and friendly the seating was comfortable (I'm recovering from abdominal surgery and sitting on a comfortable ergonomic chair is essential to my dining experience) and ergonomically great and best of all the food was fantastic and when I say fantastic it was 'to die for'. The tables were clean and had sugar, salt and pepper and a cute fake flower arrangement so my Hayfever wasn't tweaked at all with serviettes that were thick and big enough to cover my entire lap not rough when dabbing my lips and cleaning my beard. We ordered an open Chicken Souvlaki (well worth the $29) it was served with a delicious fresh salad with tomato, cucumber, olives and feta that crumbled to perfection, crispy French fries, flat bread and a decent amount of Chicken breast that was marinated to perfection with a tasty tzatziki (served on the side) and some lemon wedges! It was heaven on a plate and it was a large serve. We also ordered four steamed prawn dumplings that came with a light soy dipping sauce also served on the side. Now these dumplings were fresh and they had the snap that fresh well cooked prawns have when the chef knows how to cook! I also had a Lungo coffee that was just perfect, no bitterness and the perfect amount of Crema that gave me the caffeine hit I needed we also ordered an ice coffee that the staff changed to my wife's tastes (no cream, add almond milk and extra ice cream, hold the ice cubes) without hesitation We walked out of that beautiful cafe that also has a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu with big smiles and a great feeling in our tummies! Thank you to Hapi Cafe, the Service staff, the Kitchen staff and the Chef, whom ever owns this business definitely knows their Hospitality like the back of their hand. 10 out of 10 we will be bringing the kids next time to enjoy this fantastic little gem! 🤩
Came back on 22/02/25, My wife and I came back to Hapi Cafe because I couldn't get the open Chicken Souvlaki off my mind and again I wasn't disappointed it was top notch in fact if I could give it more points I would, i was totally satisfied. My wife had the Prawn Ceaser salad and it also was fantastic the egg was perfect, the prawns (at least 9 plus on the plate) were cooked to perfection even though served cold as the dish is served the prawns had the perfect snap that prawn lovers want. The lettuce was crunchy and I know at this point in time with the climate the way it is lettuce is hit and miss, the dressing was perfect and the parmesan cheese was amazing. Again the coffee was top notch along with my wife's almond milk iced coffee. The service from the floor staff was excellent and even though inflation is high at the moment the prices were very competitive ($32 for what seemed like a larger serve than last time for the open Souvlaki) with the surrounding establishments including Rosebud. The atmosphere again was alive and bubbly and every dish I saw coming out being served to the clients were looking delicious and the comments I heard coming from other tables were.... Wow this is sooo good, this is to die for, this is well above what I expected. So again we'll done to the floor staff, from meet and greet to seating and ordering, to what came out of the kitchen ( superb ) this team run by the head chef knows their food and to whoever owns and runs this establishment they know their hospitality very, very well. PS. I love the clock it reminds me of 'Alice in Wonderland' and this place is definitely a wonderland full of clean tables, friendly smiles and top notch (fantastic) food. Well done, again, to the Hapi Cafe team and Avery big...
Read morePopped in around 1145am on a Sunday morning. Place was pretty full but the vibe was pretty good. Has some 80s music playing the whole time which is always a hit for me.
Ordered a latte and iced chai for drinks and a Big Brekky and The Moroccan for food.
When the food came out around 30 minutes later I asked where our drinks were. I started to get a little frustrated as we started watching take away coffees and other dine in customers receive their orders before us when they ordered after us. The lad said he would check but got tied up with new customers and not sure he got to ask. They were evidently short staffed, but were doing the best they could. I asked him again 10 mins later and he said he would go and check again. Still nothing. Finally I asked a lady and she chased it up. She brought out the iced chai which was powdered when we asked for loose leaf, and the latte which came out and was not decaf. So both had to be remade. Mind you these came out after breakfast and we asked for take away now as we were leaving.
The food was really great though. Both meals I couldn’t fault. With dairy and gluten free allergens they really catered to it and substituted items rather than just removing them. They were big and hearty and worth the money we paid, even if there was a 10% surcharge for a Sunday.
The lad ended up giving us the coffees for free due to the muck around. Ended up being over an hour before we got them so I’m glad he did that. Overall I can tell that being short staffed is the only reason they made errors with orders. The food was great, they cater for all allergies really well, the coffee was eventually great, and the service lad was really good and only did his best. Missed orders are no fault of his own. So for that I think this is still a 5 star cafe and I highly recommend if you are...
Read moreI recently had a highly disappointing experience at Penny Lane, and I feel compelled to share my dissatisfaction, particularly with the owner, an Asian woman who demonstrated unprofessionalism and a complete lack of customer service. FYI I’m Asian as well, it was very rude behaviour
I visited the restaurant at 5:30 pm and ordered the advertised curry and bread, which was prominently displayed both inside the restaurant and near the counter. The staff member who took my order was pleasant initially, expressing approval of my choice. However, to my dismay, I was only served the curry when my order arrived at the table, with no sign of the promised bread.
Upon questioning this omission, the owner abruptly stormed over to my table and curtly informed me that the curry and bread were exclusive to the lunch menu. Her response lacked any explanation, apology, or willingness to accommodate my request for an extra serving of bread, for which I was more than willing to pay.
My dissatisfaction stems from the fact that the restaurant extensively advertises the curry and bread combination throughout the premises, creating a misleading impression that it is available throughout the day. If this dish is restricted to lunch hours, it should be explicitly mentioned in the advertisements to avoid such confusion.
The overall quality of the food was commendable, but the proprietor's dismissive and rude behavior overshadowed any positive aspects of my dining experience. I find it unacceptable for a restaurant owner to treat customers in such a manner.
I urge the management to address this issue promptly and provide clearer communication regarding menu items. As a customer, I expected better treatment and transparency, and my encounter with the Asian woman in charge has left me thoroughly...
