Hobsons Bay Fish and Chips — Restaurant in Melbourne

Went there Saturday lunchtime and they were totally disorganised. Two young people taking orders and wrapping were distracted by mobile phones and I watched while my order sat waiting to be wrapped for over 5 minutes… The young girl started wrapping my order but stopped halfway to take a mobile phone call… When she finished I had to lean over and remind her to finish wrapping my order. The two older people behind the counter were just not interested while customers and orders kept lining up… I asked another customer if the shop had changed owners as the service was so bad… When we did get to eat it it was half cold and soggy. I am so disappointed. Have gone to this shop for years. I just bought a fish burger. It was big, but it was so bland and terrible. The batter in the fish was not cooked properly, the mayo cheap, and the raw dough on the inside made it inedible. I just wanted to sit by the sea and enjoy a treat. This certainly was not that. The seagulls enjoyed it. I bought 1 scallop as well, that was fresh and lush (5✨️) but the batter thicker than I remember it. Hope the seagulls enjoyed their $14 fish burger. Hope it goes back to thin well cooked batter and flavoursome food. But, I'm out...

They forgot my flake which was super frustrating as we were already at the beach to eat, when I called there was no apology just simply “you can come back and get it or save it for next time”…not good enough.

As for the quality of the fish and chips I would say average at best. The batter didn’t really have much flavour but the biggest negative was chicken salt coming in a bag (pictured left) rather than on the fish and chips? When not applied to fresh-from-the-frier fish and chips it just doesn’t stick at all so they had no flavour.
