La Cabra Mexican - South Yarra — Restaurant in Melbourne

We fancied Mexican and thought we'll try out this chain and the South Yarra store has good ratings. I'd booked via Google Maps reservations but that didn't flow through to their system. The restaurant wasn't fully booked and the server offered me a choice of tables in the front or the back. The menu has a decent range of choices to whet the appetite. 👍

The Wednesday special is $1 wings! This zingy entree was tender and super tasty thanks to its spicy and plentiful marinate. The corn was surprisingly good - chargrilled, juicy and topped with spices and paired with creamy ricotta salata and Chipotle mayo. My Burrito Bowl with prawns was loaded with fresh ingredients that added layers of flavours and textures. My friend also enjoyed her tasty fish, prawn and beef tacos. She doesn't normally like fried food but thought the fish was done well without the excess oil.

REVIEW: ⭐ We were looking for something straightforward for dinner. Luckily on a Saturday, we were able to walk straight in to La Cabra and grab a table!

💛 Corn was very fairly priced. You get 2 cobs for $9.00, which is great to split with a friend. I only wish there was more even layering of the ricotta and and chipotle mayo on the cob, because it seemed a little top heavy. All the flavour was on one end, which meant some SERIOUS planning on my end to ensure each bite had a kick. 💭 🔺Cabra Nachos was also great to share with my friend! Interesting to see the sides of guac and sour cream in a separate plates, although it finished too quick for my liking. Nonetheless, the nachos hit the spot (especially after some drinks) and a great night snack. 🌃

Myself and a friend ate here on Monday night (February 5) and were very impressed. The food and service as fantastic. I noticed you advertised a lunchtime special between 11.00-2.00 - Monday - Friday for a burrito and fries. I invited another friend to have lunch with me and take advantage of the special. We arrived at 11.38 yesterday (Thursday February 8) only to find the closed sign up and no sign of life. Very disappointed. Anyway I had another day off today and thought i would really like to try your burrito so I would give you another chance. I arrived at 11.22 today (Friday February 9) find the open sign turned around saying open, but the door locked. There looked like there were signs of life. I waited a few minutes but no change. While I appreciate I was quite early you had advertised the special for those times. I would suggest you remove or change the time offering of the offer.
