The first thing I noticed about France Soir is that it definitely resembles a French bistro. It's very unassuming from the outside, but inside it's lovely; divided into two sections that consist of a more modern looking first area, and then towards the back (the restaurant is deep) it looks a little more casual, but still nice. They pack people in, and it gets loud, but it's all good. The only other thing that might have made it feel more French yet, was the music. I imagined the French cafe type accordion music, but anyhoo ... The service was good. The staff are friendly. They run a very tight ship but got everything right. For starters, I ordered a beautifully fresh and delicious dill cured salmon that came with creme fraiche and toasts. It was so good. For dinner, I couldn't look past the Duck Ă l'orange. Another incredible choice. Many mains, come with pomme frites, so you think not to order anything else. The only negative, was that there are so few per meal. For mine, that had a lot of jus, it NEEDED something like a full serve of pomme frites, or else I would have ordered some other kind of side. However, it was delicious. Lastly, I ordered the Rum Baba which should have been delicious, and probably was, except there was way too much rum poured over it for my liking. It was fresh and had potential, and when I eat there next time and maybe order dessert again, I'd ask for no rum, to be honest. Overall, the experience here was great. We all enjoyed our dinners and again, the service was very good. Yes, it's a little pricey, but this was an occasion, so it was worth it. Parking could be a bit of a problem, so make sure to leave with enough time to search for a spot, but I would absolutely come back here again for sure sometime hopefully very, very soon!

France-Soir in South Yarra is a true gem for those seeking authentic French cuisine with exceptional service. Stepping into this cozy, lively bistro feels like a trip to Paris, with an atmosphere thatâs both classic and vibrant. The staff are attentive, warm, and knowledgeable, creating a welcoming experience that makes every guest feel at home. One of the standout dishes on the menu is the escargot. Perfectly cooked and drenched in a rich garlic and herb butter, each bite is a burst of flavor thatâs both indulgent and memorable. For those who love traditional French fare, the escargot here is simply a must-try. Another classic that shouldnât be missed is the French onion soup. This dish is pure comfort, with its deep, savory flavors, perfectly caramelized onions, and a layer of gooey, melted cheese on top. The soup is balanced with just the right amount of richness, capturing everything thatâs loved about French cuisine in one bowl. Beyond the food, France-Soirâs service adds to the experience, with staff who are friendly yet professional, ensuring your glass is always full and your experience is flawless. They know the menu inside out and are happy to recommend wines to perfectly complement each dish. If youâre in Melbourne and craving an authentic taste of France, France-Soir is the place to go. The escargot and French onion soup are standout choices that truly capture the essence of French cuisine. ⢠Dr. Paul Soryal, Genesis Dentists

Today, my family and I visited France-Soir for lunch. Despite informing them during the reservation that we had a 5-year-old child and receiving assurance that children were welcome, our experience was far from satisfactory. We were seated in a corner, which we found suitable for dining with a child. However, our table seemed neglected. We had to repeatedly call for service; no one offered water or cleared our plates without us flagging them down. Surprisingly, when we did call for assistance, we were met with annoyance, with one server even questioning why we kept calling them. Moreover, our child couldn't find anything to eat from the menu, so we resorted to ordering bread. While the first round was served willingly, the second time we requested bread, we were scolded by the server, who insisted we finish what we had before adding more, only to later charge us an extra $5 for the additional bread. During the meal, when my mother-in-law accidentally spilled water, the response from the staff was accusatory rather than helpful. No one offered to clean up or replace the wet napkins until we flagged down another server. Additionally, one dish was forgotten entirely until we reminded them, further adding to our dissatisfaction. To top it off, we were stared at while paying the bill, with the server eagerly anticipating how much tip we would leave. Overall, our experience was disappointing. While the food was average, the dining experience was subpar. There are plenty of other French restaurants worth visiting where the service matches the quality of the cuisine. France-Soir will not be on our list of recommendations.

A cozy Parisian bistro style restaurant located on Toorak Rd. This was my first time trying escargot! We ordered: đŚ Grilled Scampi, Lemongrass đ Scallops w/ Saffron Sauce đŚ Calamari, Chorizo & Jalapenos đ Escargot Snails in Garlic Butter 𼊠Eye Fillet 280g đ Pomme Frites Before I get into the food, which I could barely fault, I have to mention the shocking service at the end of the night that really put a sour taste in our mouths. The waiter was incredibly pushy with asking for a tip, with comments like âi need to feed my childrenâ and âyou forgot a zeroâ, while muttering under his breath in French when he saw the tip amount, which was clearly not satisfactory for him. Service was fine throughout the meal, but I wouldnât say it was particularly attentive and warranted a spectacular tip, and it was an uncomfortable way to end what would have been a great meal. Now onto the food. The scallops were cooked to tender perfection and the buttery saffron sauce was delicious and we mopped it all up with the complimentary bread. The calamari was also cooked well, not rubbery, accompanied with flavoursome chorizo and had a spicy kick from the jalapenos. This was my first time trying escargot and I loveddd the fragrant garlic sauce - the texture of the snail was almost like a mussel. The scampi was nice, but forgettable. The fries tasted like maccas fries so no complaints from me, while the steak was tender, but definitely needed some salt. Overall, the food was great, however my final rating is heavily influenced by the rude service.

My experience was very bad at this French restaurant and would not recommend it to anyone. It was our 11th anniversary and I booked this restaurant a week in advance and told them itâs very special for me. On the day, it was very busy inside and all staff running around and talking french to each other loudly. They had no idea about booking and told us to sit down on one table. After 5 minutes one of the guy (manager probably) came and asked us who told you to sit down here. He said that he will allow us to sit down as we had booking (very awkward). I didnât leave the place as I didnât want to destroy our celebration. Other waiter came and served us with suggestions about food and drink. He brought us a bottle of wine and put it in decanter. I asked him to bring bottle as I want to read the label and company information, but, surprisingly and rudely he said it was a last one and he doesnât have time to bring another from storage. OMG, it was the most misbehaving from a waiter after attending thousands of restaurants. He brought the menu and showed us the name on menu. On the other hand, food was delicious, however, it was really difficult for me to enjoy it as I couldnât tolerate this behavior. After finishing food I requested the bill to pay and go. The waiter brought the bill and asked me if I want to give him tip. He was super angry when I said NO and paid the right money. Why should I give any tips when I had the most awful experience in this restaurant. Never will go there again.
