Tao Dumplings South Yarra — Restaurant in Melbourne

Restaurant is very pretty, clearly very popular based on my visit on a Saturday night. Not a bad vibe to bring a date for, though a bit loud for conversation if that's a consideration. Plating was lovely, friend got satay chicken and it came on a little shelf thing with a hot plate and a flame underneath, which was kinda neat. Dumplings were a bit smaller than what I'm used to, less air around the filling (good thing), and possibly a little less filling than I'm accustomed to (less good if true), though hard to judge based on memory. I know I had 14 dumplings, at other places where I get the same amount, I am usually pretty full by the end. Was not here. Veggie dumplings, sadly very much like what I'm used to, pretty meh, just a delivery method for your condiment mix (chilli oil, vinegar and soy sauce on the table). But the beef and lamb dumplings, I've not been to THAT many dumpling places, but I love lamb and I've not seen it as an option before. Freaking delicious, 100% recommend if you like lamb. Food came out right quick, which was great. Though my friend got their dishes before mine rather than at the same time which some may find off-putting, I don't personally mind that much, just another consideration. The space between the dishes coming out was not long at least, but he'd tucked into his satay a bit before I got my dumpies. Anyway if you're not put off by my more negative points, as evidenced by my 5 stars, I actually thoroughly enjoyed it and will likely return with others for some yummy...

The most impressive thing about this Chinese restaurant is not only the variety of dishes, but also their excellent service attitude. From the moment I walked in, the waiter greeted me with a smile and politeness, giving me a feeling of being at home. They pay great attention to the customer experience, always pay attention to our needs, but will not be too intrusive, and the service is very measured.

When ordering, the staff patiently answered every question, and even if we hesitated for a long time, they always remained friendly and patient. During the meal, whether it was pouring tea and water or changing tableware, they were very proactive and thoughtful. Even if it was just a small eye contact, they could respond immediately, with quick reactions and gentle attitudes.

When checking out, the waiter was also very polite, took the initiative to ask about the dining experience, and sincerely invited us to come again next time. Throughout the meal, I felt a strong sense of respect and warmth from beginning to end.

In today's fast-paced life, such attentive and considerate service is really rare. Even if I don't talk about the dishes, I am willing to visit again and again just based on this service attitude. I strongly recommend this first-class...

Unfortunately I usually enjoy this restaurant, however tonight I left feeling sick, the pan fried pork dumplings were very undercooked, slimy, pink/raw meat was smeared on the edges of the pastry which alerted me when it came out and then inside the filling was the same, the texture was very unpleasant and not right. I informed the staff who told me it was cooked because it is juicy...despite the colour and texture. I didn’t feel comfortable eating them so taken them home to further cook myself.. as they were going to charge me anyways for them. Very disappointing they didn’t offer to re-cook or re-make the dish for me as I raised my concerns twice with different staff, and usually not fussy at all with food but tonight I wasn’t able to finish my meal and left unsatisfied and concerned I might end up ill. I will be going elsewhere for dumplings from now on and not recommending this place as this was not a good experience and the staff didn’t care. Just happy to charge after I told them I wasn’t able to eat them only eating 1/6 dumplings . The Xio Long Bao are very nice and tasty and no issues with these so do...
