Came here for bottomless brunch - wouldn’t really call it bottomless. Upon entry, the service was impeccable, and we were greeted at the door, checked off the guest list, and brought through to our seats. To our surprise, we weren’t in the main space, and instead brought through to a separate space. This initially wasn’t an issue. It was then 20 minutes later we were greeted by our ‘waitress for the day’, and we were finally able to order our first drinks. You can imagine the atmosphere in the room, as by 11:25am, we had been sitting there for 25 minutes, no drinks, no food, inaudible music, only the echos of the laughter and chatter from clearly superior main space, and nobody around. The combination of being left in an empty dull room by ourselves, and no service to be seen, was an immensely awkward wait. By 11:30am, our high tea came out. However, still no drinks. We weren’t shown which cream for the scones was vegan, and the other guests had to try the assortment to ensure I didn’t burst into a body of hives. We would have flagged our (or a) waitress down, except nobody was to be seen for almost another half an hour. The standard menu was great, however the vegan menu, was not as expected. It wasn’t until 11:56am, that we finally received our first round of mimosas. Free flowing didn’t really seem like the go. Considering alcohol service was only from 11am to 12:30pm, we were definitely feeling the disappointment of half an hour of drinks (or not even that, considering how difficult it was to receive any table service, or order more drinks). Spending upwards of $350.00 for a renowned ‘bottomless’ brunch experience, we were disappointed with many aspects of our experience. From the segregated space, and lack of service, to the shortcuts and missing out. Yes, I emailed Mary Eats Cake about our experience. All that was said was that they were understaffed and they weren’t quite back to normal service due to Covid. In all, a disappointing experience, and somewhat disappointed in how they handled the matter.

Came here for a friend's Hens and overall was disappointed with the experience. A set time of 1-3pm had been booked. All guests had arrived by 1:10 pm and yet food only came out (pre booked high tea) at 1:50. We were in our own room so basically impossible to get a servers attention, there was only 1 jug of water for 20 people and asked multiple times for it to be filled up and it wasn't. We were running out of cream and jam and again no servers around for long periods to ask for top ups. And tea, despite the offer of unlimited tea it would take 15 minutes to refill a single pot, and it was not really made accessible to try any of the different teas available. Then right at 3 o'clock we were rushed out the door quite abruptly. But with the delayed service throughout the stay and late food arrival many people were still eating. Food overall was okay, savouries were quite tasty but sweets hit and miss. For a place focused on high tea and a scone festival the traditional scones were not well risen and on the stodgy side. An additional fee had to be paid to be in the room we were in for the group size, I would have expected more attentive service but on the whole the whole thing felt disorganized despite no dietary requirements or variations.

Mary Eats Cake in Montrose offers a charming cottage setting with a flowery, pretty dining room featuring a chandelier. The option for separate rooms for small functions adds versatility. I had the Starry Night package and it's savories, particularly the pea and broad bean arancini, were surprisingly delicious. The scones were light and fluffy, and the cakes presented beautifully. The white cocktail was festive and tasty. However, the service experience was a letdown, with slow and haphazard service. Not being offered a second round of scones, let alone unlimited, was disappointing and trying get service or a pot of tea was difficult. My mum enjoyed the tea and she is notoriously fussy, however I wasn't offered any tea, and would have liked a hot drink. We gave up an d ended taking the cakes away to eat( cost $2 for a box) We noticed several people seated around us discussing lack of quality service today, despite a high number of staff working ☹️.....most were noticeably absent for most of the session - I would suggest it would be better to keep 'at least one staff member on floor" at all times in a room of 20 diners.

My sister in law held her baby shower here today. I have to say I've never felt so much stress and anxiety at a venue before! The booking was from 1 to 3pm, however the food did not start coming out until 2. We attempted to hold the baby shower games and as the food was being rushed out We were feeling the pressure to speed up the pace. The staff began telling us we had little time and needed to start wrapping up the baby shower. Basically they wanted us out exactly at 3pm which yes I understand but they served the food late and we hardly got to enjoy eating our meals. So then after the 10 minute interval reminders of how much time we have left the manager comes barging in rudely and tells us we need to pack up and get out! I mean legit, she told us we have to get out now so her staff can clean up. My sister in law being heavily pregnant was rushed to the minute and then when I approached the manager and told her that was so rude of her to tell us to get out, she said she did try to nicely tell us first by her staff giving us warnings and gentle reminders. When i asked the manager for her name, she said she wouldn't give that. I explained that there's a nice way to talk to paying guests and that we were given the countdown updates every 10 minutes and felt rushed and pressured to hurry up and get out. The managers excuse was that she would have to pay overtime therefore we needed to leave on the dot. So disappointing and honestly I would never recommend holding a bridal shower or baby shower here as they kick you out when you're time is up. The bridal shower that was being held in the other room were also kicked out so we all had a little chat outside about how we all felt so stressed and on edge during the occasion. We carried on to take photos and say goodbyes as did the fellow bridal shower party next door to us. Honestly if you want a stress free non rushed venue then do not go here. Management is rude and for what you pay you would expect that they can let you have 10 minutes to pack up and leave. Instead they bring out the food late and rush you and make you feel like your criminals when time is up. The manager on today was so rude so be warned if you are pla ning...

I had booked Mary eats cake for a family birthday. We had been once before and in Brunswick and that was great, so had high expectations however we were let down.

Drinks and scones started off great however for “bottomless” they didn’t really attend our table to provide service… at all? It would be an hour before we had service, service which I flagged down for myself.

45 minutes left of our booking I decide to order a drink which took 30 minutes to arrive maybe? Either way… when we finally got service from someone the manager then snapped at the person to remind them “our booking was nearly over” it was rude considering we didn’t receive any service really the whole time we were there! And then when somebody at our table pointed that out the manager or host in charge was actually quite rude ?? Kept reiterating “I know I was just saying” yeah it wasn’t a good vibe from the service staff at all.

I would say seemed to prioritise the big party, which they sat us next to the tea wall thing and then had a whole party come up and pick the tea right next to our table which was uncomfortable, of course they have every right to do that as part of their party however poor planning on the managers part, would you like to have a lunch next to a busy station? A so called “high tea” with people practically on top of you?

I paid for the whole thing as a birthday gift and considered leaving a review for a while and decided the birthday lunch was ruined by the service and poor planning from management. Such a shame as we had high expectations maybe it’s just not the party’s they priories but certain...
