Mentone RSL — Restaurant in Melbourne

Lucky to give one star! Went to the local RSL last night and I had the worst meal ever. I ordered a seniors roast of the day ( pork) and I had to send it back! Meat was as tough as leather … at first l thought it was the knife but no it was the dry overcooked meat. The veggies were dried up and the roast potatoes cold. I cld choose to have another plate of roast or a replacement meal … l decided on fried fish and chips. Well that meal was average too! The house wine was warm and awful. The other wine I bought was better. It is such a pity that this lovely old heritage building has not been looked after. We sat in the dining room … we were the only ones other than an elderly gentleman. The bench seats are tattered and need reupholstering . The walls need painting and the windows cleaned. Put the most bizzare dishes as main but when you want to order a schnitzel or a bolognese you have to be a kid or a senior 🤣🤣🤣 come on make common dishes open to everyone UPDATE: The reply back we received while we were still dining we asked the staff once again can we order the same items they said no… we have a child and senior with us who ordered different meals yet we’re still not able to order them meals?? This is the third time we’ve come here same issue they did let us get a bolognaise once after going back and forth for 20 minutes. We surprised ourselves tonight. Didn't plan to go to Mentone RSL but ended up at the venue for dinner. It was quiet tonight but the service was excellent both from the kitchen and bar staff members. Had a gnocchi, chicken parma, porterhouse steak, salt and pepper calamari and sticky date pudding washed down with a Guinness. The place has heaps of very spacious parking, the venue itself is very spacious inside with separate function rooms. Finally the place feels and looks very historic. Highly recommend anyone including family with babies and children to visit this place and support them. Well Done...
