MoMa Social Cafe — Restaurant in Melbourne

@fo0die was kindly invited to Degani Malvern East Cafe.

No doubt Degani is a familiar name to many people. And judging by the reviews here, it is well loved by many.

What surprised us was their extensive menu – there’s literally something for everyone. The café has cosy wooden interiors and outdoor seating with blankets and heating, making it inviting year-round (especially Melbourne weather where you can experience all 4 seasons in one day!)

Some local favourites are their chilli eggs, omelette your way and big breakfast which offer great value. Coffee comes in mug size, leaning on the bitter side, while the mocha was more sweet and hot-chocolate like.

We tried the breakfast bruschetta and smashed avo – both served with two slices of sourdough (make sure to pace yourself with the toppings to make it last both slices!). Poached eggs were perfect, though the Spanish onion cutting was a little inconsistent.

Overall, generous portions, a warm atmosphere and plenty of choice make this a reliable brunch spot. We can see why locals...

Degani in malvern east was a huge let down in comparison to the other Degani stores around Melbourne. I had ordered and açai bowl with toasted granola. When it came out it was an açai bowl with raw oats. I don’t think the chef has realised you do not serve the granola out of the bag degani sends it to you in but you need to roast it with brown sugar and prepare it properly. You cannot serve raw oats with a few sultanas through it. When I told the female waitress/ owner she was trying to avoid me and act like she couldn’t understand English (even if it’s your second language you should be able to understand what’s on the menu you are serving). The male owner acted the same. I brought up photos to to assist them and they still acted as if she couldn’t understand. All I was saying was that the granola is raw. This is why I asked for tax receipt when I left .. because over $60 seemed a tad much . Did put one start originally but staff polite. Bought Big Breakfast charged $23.90 but its $22.90 I see on net, it came with NO medley of mushrooms, the toast was cold and very hard, my large Mocha was luke warm, waitress had to be reminded after food arrived about Kombuca that was ordered, got a toastie for a kids with cheese only but was charged for ham/cheese toastie, kids chips was $8.90 which i find excessive.. been here a few times before and was ok but this was a let down .. and please there's no rush to clear plates when people are chatting and picking at their bits still left and set the table before food arrives would be an idea. Plenty of places around and people do expect a certain quality especially with so much competition out there .. Will be happy to try another local...
