My god. I was hoping this might provide an alternative to Coles and Woollies in Murrumbeena/Carnegie but itâs not looking good. Shocking quality vegetables, my fault for buying a few things under pressure with time I suppose. Realised when I arrived home that the garlic was sprouting and rotten (the purple garlic, not the cheap one), sweet potato on its last legs, mouldy strawberries for sale (which I didnât buy!), mealy feeling apples, man, so below par. Under-stocked fridges without poultry and meat choices. Murrumbeena Express IGA has more, and better options. Every time I try to support local. Unbelievable.    Read moreBe weary of thier clearance items, generally they will always be past the use-by (legally unable to be sold).
Last week they were selling ready made meals which were 10 days past thier use-by. I informed the worker and she seemed confused as to what the problem was. I went back to look at more of the items and found that every other clearance item (including yoghurts, milk and bread) with a hand written price had long expired.
It's dissapointing that the workers aren't more proactive with making sure the food for sale, is actually safe to consume. Maybe consider heavily discounting items before they expire?

   Read moreIâm pretty sure that although most of IGAs product range are slightly more expensive than their bigger competitors, I feel that their booze section are below the prices of their woolies and coles competition . IGA as a whole does have a great community spirit and their service over the counter is way superior than the rest.
I must say that they have been robbed many times for their easy access cigarettes. I canât understand why they havenât taken greater security precautions ie putting Roller Doors or Bars on windows. Perhaps the owner of that shop may not think itâs a good look over their tenants...
