Peking Duck Dynasty
Thought we'd give it a try. Mixed reveiws? Local Chinese Croydon only a few tables were full at the beginning we sat down table for 2 ordered prawn crackers "very nice"- Chinese tea a pass. Then ordered Veggie Spring Rolls, Beef Mongolian, Chicken veg cashew nut, steamed rice. Easy right umm not. Sparkling wine unfortunately not available scrubbed out by black text sorry this is not 5 star. Entree came looked overcooked in oil full of mushroom fungi "long thin black strips cabbage & other? Couldn't eat this. Mongolian Beef dish was tough & veggies were raw not palatable waitress kind enough to take back to kitchen 2nd time round looked re cooked still chewy uneatable. Steamed rice was hard oily yuck we sent it back waitress said they recently changed brand offered fried rice instead saying chef will cook it softer for you. Wasn’t great didn’t hold in chopsticks fell everywhere very messy. Chicken was average lacked flavour. Over all the atmosphere and service was ok until a lady we had noticed sitting alone at a front table all night staring at us came up to us when meals were served stood at our table just randomly staring? Then randomly placed 4 chocolate twirls on our table WTF she said these are for you we said politely no thankyou. Later we were told she was the owner the waitress and Aunty of restaurant she again approached us when we were paying the bill asking I hope you enjoyed your meal. My sister replied "it was not enjoyable at all it was awful" my sister said are you the owner the lady replied no, said I’m a family friend. Confused.? Read moreEdited: Came back with groupon voucher for 10 course yumcha. Unfortunately that was pretty disappointing meal. Probably the worst yumcha i ever had. The prawn crackers were somehow counted as a dish which really doesn’t make sense. And it was stale too. We had a lot of fried things at the beginning which was ok, but nothing mind blowing. They gave us 2 spring rolls instead of 4 according to the voucher which they rectified after told. The steam dumplings are not great. Mainly made of flour, I couldn’t tell which was prawns or scallops, there is probably not much of meat in there. Chili oil is pretty spicy. The best dish out of all is fried rice which is the last dish. And if you check it is actually only 9 course, not 10. Well, and that’s including prawn crackers they counted as a dish, so really, it was 8 dish course. It was enough amount of foods but just not great quality so yeah steer away from the dumplings here. And chicken corn soup whilst didnt taste bad, the ?chicken has a weird spongy texture, not sure if it was chicken or something else.
Went back here after few years, we tried this place sometime between lockdown, and we had the peking duck set and remembered that the duck soup and duck fried rice were exceptional, so we thought we’ll have them again, plus a sweet sour pork. We found while both are not nice, but I would say milder flavour than before, and most likely less salt. The sweet sour pork was crispy on the outside, they looks like big balls and sauce was ok too. Overall decent meal, portion is generous. It was nice that we were not rushed out. There were few other tables filled through the night on Friday night. Food came out pretty quickly. The place can get a bit noisy when crowded....
