Phat Yaya's — Restaurant in Melbourne

ORIGINAL REVIEW 2 YEARS AGO - READ BELOW. Just had the onion rings and the crispy pork pita. Have to say - I am super super impressed. Ratios in the pita were just right - did not skimp on the meat which was well seasoned, had crispy bits, lots of veggies and lots of sauce. Pita was warm and fluffy. The onion rings were crispy and fresh out of the fryer. I don't know anything about this place, or what its background is, but it tastes like what you would expect out of an owner who really digs his/her food and opened something for the love of it. Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.

*EDIT - NEW OWNERS POST COVID. Completely new restaurant. Not the same. Not as good. Bread is now Coles bread. Meat is reheated. Onion rings are store bought, frozen and reheated. I feel sad because it's clearly just one guy that has bought over the business and trying to make it work, but everything that made this place special...

Phenomenal dining experience! I ordered the vegan falafel souvlaki, and my sister and dad both ordered the lamb souvlaki. All were made with really fresh, tasty ingredients. The flat bread was the best we’ve ever had. It tasted hearty and homemade. The chips we shared were also very tasty and well-seasoned.

The owner was so friendly and chatted to my dad for a while, making him belly laugh multiple times. The atmosphere was very relaxed and had great lighting. It was excellent value for money as well, we only had to pay $2 extra to add large chips and a drink to our souvlaki’s.

It’s definitely worth the 5 minute extra walk past the busier areas of Main Street. Would definitely go again, I highly recommend Phat Yaya’s to anyone...

Just went here for the second time (after having had a great experience first time a couple of weeks back) and once again blown away by how delicious the souvlaki I had was. Last time I had the vegan eggplant, and this time I had the vegan cauliflower (A+ for having great vegan options by the way). Both times the souvlaki was very tasty and freshly cooked and prepared, and the chips were really good too, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside and neither dry nor greasy! The owner is really friendly too! I’ll definitely be back because honestly these were the best souvlakis I’ve had in...
