Plug Nickel established in 2016 in Collingwood owned by several people to raise the bar for the coffee in Melbourne. The interior design was pretty standard as other coffee shops, it doesn't have a lot of seats but it was pretty cosy to carry on the meeting in this cafe.
It was sunny morning and coffee was the best option to start our day. We decided to go to Plug Nickel and served by a friendly customer staff. We were offered a free glass of sparking water, it was a great impression for first timer. We ordered take away coffees: mocha for $5.50 and cappuccino for $4.00. The mocha wasn't good, it had the same taste as hot chocolate. The chocolate and milk were too much therefore the taste of coffee was surpressed. It was also pretty pricey for a mocha where other places were selling at around $4.00 - $4.50. The cappuccino was pretty good, unfortunately the size of the cup not even small. It was tiny cup, I believe the size was just 6 oz instead of 8 oz used by most coffee shops.
We would recommend to order the coffee but not the mocha.

Read moreI've been coming here for a year now, and overall, it's a great spot. The location is excellent, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the coffee is consistently good. Most of the staff are friendly and professional, which makes it a pleasant experience—most of the time.
However, service can be hit or miss depending on who's working. There's one staff member in particular—a blonde girl with long hair—who consistently comes across as rude and dismissive. At first, I thought she might just be having a rough day, but after several visits, it feels like that's just her usual demeanor. She seems to treat customers as if she's doing them a favor, rather than providing service with a smile.
Hospitality is a big part of what makes a café experience enjoyable, and unfortunately, her attitude really takes away from an otherwise great place. A little kindness and approachability go a long way.

Read moreI've had mixed experiences at Plug Nickel. On one hand I've been served by a girl who was absolutely lovely and so kind to me, my boyfriend and the two dogs and we had a great experience. On the other hand I walked over to look in the street-facing food display and the male staff member yelled out "Guys, I'm done" when I'd barely approached the counter. It was 3:03 and I understand that the place closed at 3 (because he yelled it out at me) however I only wanted a vegan sandwich that was pre made - and didn't even want it toasted. So that was really disappointing. If he had been nicer about it then I...
